HomeCare Coordination – Training Program Director
HomeCare Coordination (HCC) is building a clean energy work force by training and upskilling people to serve our existing housing stock that helps make healthier living environments, more resilient structures, energy efficient and electrification ready homes. HCC is devoted to training the next generation of home energy professionals for a rapidly expanding energy industry sector from the neighborhoods we serve, through the HOME (Home Operations Management Experts) Workforce Program. HOME hosts one of two green industry workforce development programs as part of the Holistic Healthy Homes (HHH) Program, funded from an U.S. EPA Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Block Grant (ECJCCBG) through the federal Inflation Reduction Act, through Kalamazoo County and the Kalamazoo Climate Crisis Coalition (KCCC). HHH is rooted in KCCC’s mission to “mobilize collective action to achieve immediate and drastic reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and rapid adoption of renewable energy through a transition grounded in social, racial, economic, and environmental justice.” This program is jointly led by KCCC and Kalamazoo County.
HomeCare Coordination is seeking to hire an experienced non-profit person who is highly motivated and knowledgeable about neighborhood housing to support the green energy industry workforce training expansion for learners from four core Kalamazoo neighborhoods (Northside, Eastside, West Douglas, and Edison). Utilizing the curriculum developed in partnership with home performance contractor Better World Builders, NREL weatherization training materials will be aligned with pre-apprenticeship requirements outlined in the HHH Program goals. This position focuses on organizational structure and training programs that serve neighborhood candidates for economic advancement through sustainable trade careers in energy efficiency, weatherization, and home performance. The ideal candidate will have non-profit management experience with skills in education, healthy homes and building trades.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Develop programs to Teach, model, and coach students in:
- energy efficiency, weatherization, and home performance concepts, with a focus on hands-on, real-world applications.
- appropriate worksite conduct.
- safety protocols, including cleanliness and strategies for working in challenging environments such as attics and crawlspaces.
- Planning and Directing organization operations and projects
- Communicating frequently with the Board of Directors and organizational leaders regarding goals and issues
- Working closely with funding and community partners, governmental organizations and neighborhoods
- Lead and assist in fundraising strategy and cultivating funding efforts
- Manage day-to-day operations, cash flow, and budget planning
- Manage financial reporting with work with Board of Director, officers
- Inspire and engage students by adapting teaching methods to participants’ training needs, education, skills, interests, and various learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and reading/writing preferences).
- Maintain a high level of organization and be responsive to fluctuating work conditions to effectively manage training sessions and resources.
- Collaborate with local contractors to facilitate students’ professional network.
- Collaborate with the Kalamazoo Climate Crisis Coalition - Workforce Coordinator, to facilitate outreach and recruitment efforts for future training cohorts.
- Support program development and continually assess and refine training methods to ensure continuous improvement and program success.
- Leadership experience and organizational skills equivalent to 5+ years with non-profits or program development.
- Excellent leadership and management skills, including strategic leadership
- Proven experience in peer relationship development and management, with the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with trainees and team members, management and clients, and external partners.
- Personability and enthusiasm for being the public face of the organization.
- A positive mindset and dedication to the organization’s core mission
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage fluctuating work conditions and prioritize tasks.
- Proven experience in peer relationship development and management, with the ability to collaborate and communicate actively with team members, speakers, and external partners.
- Knowledge of building trades and the specific needs of low-income homeowners, preferred. Working knowledge of building codes and energy performance standards.
- Proficiency in operating diagnostic equipment such as blower door, infrared camera, gas sniffer, combustion analyzer, and/or indoor air quality sampling devices.
- Understands the community driven nature of climate resilience and emergency preparedness, in the context of our work.
- Values integrity.
- Thinks independently with strong initiative, but comfortable working within a defined framework.
