Description

Avenue’s Communications Team is looking for motivated individuals to join us, working in the world of Public Involvement (PI) as a liaison between our clients (transportation, state, and municipal agencies) and the public. As with all opportunities at Avenue, we are interested in applicants even if they don’t meet every qualification listed.

A working knowledge of the transportation industry is much easier to teach than good work ethic. Priority will be given to those candidates who are proactive, reliable, and understand the importance of effective communication.

Job Duties

  • Supporting outreach efforts to agency staff, community leaders, regional organizations, individuals, businesses, and community groups.
  • Assisting with the development of effective public outreach strategic plans to solicit input and feedback from the public.
  • Facilitating and organizing virtual and in-person meetings including open houses and public hearings, workshops, neighbor meetings, one-on-one stakeholder meetings, and other public events.
  • Preparing a variety of digital and print materials designed to inform the public and stakeholders, including talking points, multi-media presentations, newsletters, display boards, meeting summaries and documentation, website content, and social media posts.
  • Conducting research and gathering information for projects.
  • Monitoring and responding to public hotlines and email accounts.
  • Maintaining stakeholder interaction databases.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or pursuing a degree in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations
    • Or equivalent experience
Skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Detail oriented and self-starter; can work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple high-priority assignments in a fast-paced environment
  • Has desire to work with the public and ability to connect with people from a diverse range of backgrounds
  • Willingness to learn, provide feedback, and receive feedback
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and standing
