About Us:

Blue Orbit Sign Studio is a full-service visual communications company, specializing in the design, fabrication and installation of custom signs and graphics. We're a tight-knit, creative team that values craftsmanship, precision, and bold design. We have an immediate need to add a skilled Graphic Designer and Vinyl Graphics Specialist to our dynamic team.

Position Overview:

We’re seeking a creative and detail-oriented individual who is equally comfortable behind a screen and on the job site. This hybrid role combines traditional graphic design with hands-on vinyl production and installation. You'll be designing everything from custom signs and graphics to full vehicle wraps, preparing files for print, operating vinyl plotters/printers, and applying graphics with a professional finish.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Client Communication and Concept Development

  • Meet with clients to understand branding, goals, and sign requirements.
  • Interpret client ideas and translate them into visual concepts.
  • Suggest materials, colors, and formats suitable for the intended environment.

Design Creation

  • Develop mockups, layouts, and proofs using Adobe Illustrator.
  • Ensure designs are aesthetically appealing, readable, and aligned with branding.
  • Apply principles of visual hierarchy, contrast, and scale for maximum impact.
  • 3D design knowledge is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the sign industry is preferred.

File Preparation for Production

  • Prepare production-ready files with correct dimensions, bleed, resolution, and color profiles (CMYK, Pantone).
  • Convert artwork into formats compatible with RIP programs, printers, plotters, and CNC routers.
  • Ensure accuracy for signs made with materials like vinyl, metal, acrylic, or LED.

Pre-Press and Quality Checks

  • Double-check spelling, spacing, and alignment.
  • Collaborate with production staff to ensure the design can be executed as intended.
  • Make adjustments based on material limitations or production constraints.

Brand Consistency

  • Maintain and apply brand standards across different types of signage: storefront signs, vehicle wraps, banners, interior displays, wayfinding signs, etc.
  • Create branding packages or templates if needed.

Project Management Support

  • Track design stages, revisions, and approvals.
  • Coordinate with installation teams to ensure the final product matches the design specifications.

Creative Input

  • Suggest innovative ideas or visual solutions, especially for unique signage requests.
  • Stay updated on trends in design, materials, and sign-making technology.

Graphics Installation

  • Install vinyl graphics, wraps, and signage on vehicles, walls, windows, floors, and other surfaces.
  • Prep surfaces for installation including cleaning, measuring, and marking for alignment.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment such as heat guns, squeegees, ladders, and lifts.
  • Review job work orders, artwork, and installation instructions to ensure accurate execution.
  • Assist with in-shop production of signage when needed (weeding, masking, laminating, trimming).
  • Work on-site at client locations as needed for off-premise installations.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Represent the company professionally during customer interactions.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of professional graphic design experience (signage industry preferred).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Strong understanding of design principles, branding, and file setup for production.
  • Experience with vinyl cutting, weeding, masking, and installation.
  • Comfortable working with tools, ladders, and occasionally outdoors or on-site at customers’ locations.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to take direction and work both independently and as part of a team.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive pay based on experience and skills
  • Creative, collaborative work environment
  • Opportunities to grow and lead in a hands-on role
  • Supportive team culture
