Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Digital Media Studio, the Senior Video Director is a creative and strategic thinker responsible for conceptualizing, directing, and delivering high-impact video content across SRP’s internal and external communications platforms. As a senior member of the Digital Media Studio, this role is integral to transforming business objectives into compelling visual narratives that align with brand guidelines and uphold SRP’s values, culture, and history.

This individual owns the creative vision of assigned projects from initial concept through final delivery, providing leadership in treatment writing, client communication, talent direction, and storytelling execution. Working closely with strategists, producers, video editors, photographers, designers, and business partners, the Senior Video Director ensures that each production meets strategic goals, elevates the brand, and adheres to the highest creative and technical standards. Understanding SRP’s historical context and operational purpose is essential to developing video content that resonates and informs.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the creative production of strategic video content from pitch to post-production, collaborating with copywriters, designers, and directing on-camera talent.
  • Collaborate with business partners, strategists, and creative leadership to understand communication goals and develop compelling story arcs aligned to SRP’s brand identity.
  • Direct talent on and off camera, including employees, executives, and community members, ensuring confidence, authenticity, and clarity in performance.
  • Work with copywriters to write scripts and treatments that align with business messaging, tone, and audience expectations while meeting time and budget constraints.
  • Oversee all aspects of on-location and studio production including lighting, framing, blocking, performance coaching, and overall visual storytelling.
  • Serve as a client-facing creative partner, presenting ideas, gathering feedback, and building relationships that lead to impactful visual storytelling partnerships.
  • Collaborate with producers and crew to develop production plans, location logistics, schedules, and resourcing that match the project’s creative vision.
  • Provide clear direction to editors, animators, and post-production teams to ensure final deliverables are polished, emotionally resonant, and visually aligned.
  • Ensure all video content supports SRP’s brand standards, safety protocols, and historical and operational context (e.g., water and power delivery systems).
  • Participate in creative reviews, contributing to a culture of constructive critique, mentorship, and creative excellence.
  • Stay current with visual trends, cinematic language, directing methods, video technologies, and equipment to bring fresh, modern perspectives to SRP’s content.
  • Help shape best practices, benchmarks, and documentation to elevate studio workflows, storytelling quality, and audience engagement.

What It Takes To Succeed

  • Demonstrated expertise in video storytelling, directing, and treatment development across a range of content types (e.g., brand campaigns, internal communications, mini-docs, interviews, etc.).
  • Ability to lead the video direction of productions from strategy to execution, ensuring alignment with business goals and creative excellence.
  • Strong presence and communication skills in working with executive clients, stakeholders, and talent on and off-camera.
  • Deep knowledge of production, cinematography, lighting, and sound fundamentals.
  • Expertise with camera systems, lenses, lighting techniques, and studio/on-location directing practices.
  • Experience giving direction to editors and post-production professionals to shape compelling final cuts.
  • Commitment to safety and professional conduct in line with SRP’s corporate culture and field environment standards.
  • A willingness to learn and incorporate knowledge of SRP’s water and power operations, history, and community service role into storytelling.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Film, Cinematography, Media Arts, or a related field from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of professional experience in video production, directing, or broadcast production roles is preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead end-to-end productions and direct talent with confidence.
  • Portfolio or demo reel that demonstrates advanced storytelling, directing, and visual creativity.
  • Experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary creative environments.

Experience

A minimum of two years of related experience is required (if no degree, six years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling six years).

Education

A bachelor’s degree related to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
