The Center for Women’s Biobehavioral Health Research (PI: Rebecca Thurston) is devoted to understanding and enhancing women’s health at midlife and beyond. The Center, located in Sterling Plaza, is within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. The Research Project Assistant will be responsible for screening, recruiting, consenting, and completing study assessments on participants in the MenoBrain study. The MenoBrain Study is a National Institutes of Health-funded study designed to study women’s brain and heart health over the perimenopause. The ideal candidate would be someone who has prior human subjects research experience, has strong organizational and communication skills, is detail-orientated, is eager to learn, and is interested in women’s health.

This position is grant funded.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing the day-to-day execution of study activities to ensure protocol adherence and efficiency.
  • Help oversee junior research staff.
  • Recruit and screen participants; schedule study appointments.
  • Meet participants at study visits, obtain written consent, and orient them to study procedures.
  • Administer anthropometric, psychometric, and cognitive assessments.
  • Equip participants with ambulatory study equipment and train them on the use of monitors and diaries.
  • Escort participants to and from UPMC labs for imaging assessments.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all study data collected.
  • Collaborate with senior research personnel on recruitment strategies, data collection, and reporting.
  • Clean and code physiologic data according to established procedures; enter data into databases.
  • Support and coordinate with MenoBrain Research Specialists, senior staff, and investigators.
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Effectively prioritize and complete multiple tasks.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Sociology, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a research project and/or clinical setting required. Three years experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating research activities and supporting oversight of study operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required.
  • Strong working knowledge of research methodology and human subjects research strongly preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to make independent decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience performing phlebotomy preferred (or willingness to learn phlebotomy).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Professionalism and sensitivity in working with diverse populations, particularly women in midlife and older adulthood.
