Position Summary
Our work: The swarm lab researches army ant collective behavior, specially, identifying the physical rules governing the construction of bridges and nests formed by living workers linking themselves together using biological modeling. Current research projects include measuring the dimensions of army ant bridges over time to understand the level of investment in these structures under different conditions and analyzing 3D volumes of bivouacs, or the living nests created by these ants.
Essential Functions
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate/range for this position is $25.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.

Essential Functions
- Participate in making measurements of army ant bridges, either as part of the project on bridges, or as part of the project on bivouacs.
- This work is computer-based and involves the use of video editing software, image editing software, ImageJ, and R and Matlab code.
- Prior experience with these tools is desirable but not required.
- Showing interest in learning more about the topic of collective intelligence in ants is essential.
- As this work is computer-based and does not currently involve live animals, it does not require late hours and can be performed remotely as needed, although presence in the lab will be necessary during the learning process and is generally beneficial to research.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
