We’re seeking a talented and motivated Materials/Chemical Engineer to join our growing team. This individual will play a critical role in optimizing our proprietary Direct Conversion Process, developing new fiber architectures, and scaling production for both structural and aesthetically driven applications.
What You'll Do:
As a Materials/Chemical Engineer at ACF, you’ll help refine and scale our transformative fiber conversion process and contribute directly to the advancement of materials that are revolutionizing multiple industries. You will:
- Lead design of experiments to optimize conversion parameters for transforming PAN-based carbon fibers of various types into ACF’s advanced Fi-Bar.
- Characterize fiber materials using techniques such as SEM, XRD, TGA, DSC, tensile testing, and microscopy to evaluate structure, composition, and performance.
- Investigate and develop processes that enhance fiber performance and aesthetics for use in extreme environments and consumer electronics and design-driven applications.
- Translate lab-scale processes into scalable production methods while maintaining consistency, quality, and repeatability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, quality) to integrate new materials and methods into pilot and full-scale operations.
- Support proposal writing, data analysis, and customer reporting for government and commercial R&D programs.
- Document research findings, SOPs, and material specifications in a clear and organized format.
- Contribute to ACF’s IP portfolio through inventive process or product advancements.
- As needed manage strategic projects across R&D, manufacturing, and client-facing operations.
- Hands-on experience with high-temperature materials, carbon or ceramic fibers, or composite manufacturing preferred.
- Strong background in thermochemistry, polymer chemistry, or materials processing.
- Proficiency in lab instrumentation, process control, and data analysis.
- Familiarity with fiber handling, coatings, or surface modification techniques is a plus.
- Experience supporting materials development for aerospace, defense, or consumer product applications highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and documentation skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D/manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in a materials research, chemical processing, or manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
