Job Summary
The Associate Director of International Student and Scholar Services serves in a lead role to the Office of International Education (OIE), Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) in providing immigration advising and guidance to international F-1 and J-1 students of the University. Advises J-1 scholars and processes J-1 scholar requests. Oversees the processing of more complicated immigration applications. Supervises ISSS immigration advisors.

Job Summary
The Associate Director of International Student and Scholar Services serves in a lead role to the Office of International Education (OIE), Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) in providing immigration advising and guidance to international F-1 and J-1 students of the University. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provides leadership to the advising team regarding interpretation and application of regulations pertaining to F-1 students.
- Management of escalated student cases.
- Directly supervises six (6) advisors.
- Oversees and participates in advisor training.
- Assists with hiring advising staff.
- Serves in a lead role in communicating with departments concerning procedures affecting international students.
- Assists with policy decisions regarding integration of academic policy and immigration regulations.
- Assists with campus outreach efforts and oversees advisor outreach participation to enhance and improve ISSS processes and services.
- Assists with the J-program providing services to J students and scholars.
- Plans and oversees training programs for international students, such as employment seminars.
- Liaison with other University units in matters affecting international students.
- Secondary point-of-contact with federal and state government agencies such as SEVP, CBP, Texas DPS, and Social Security Administration.
- Attends professional meetings, respond to requests for information, research immigration law and practices, and confer with colleagues.
- Other related functions as assigned.
- Master’s degree.
- Five (5) years of experience working with advising international students.
- Working knowledge and experience of immigration regulations related to student visa categories.
- One (1) year of supervisory experience.
- Working knowledge and experience of J-1 visa regulations.
- Experience with Sunapsis.
- Knowledge of F-1 and J-1 regulations, SEVIS database system, Sunapsis, Peoplesoft, Imaging Systems, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Good communication and writing skills.
- Ability multi-task.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently with faculty/staff and other relevant stakeholders from various backgrounds.
