Position Summary

The Turnaround Supervisor is responsible for overseeing contractors in the safe, timely, and cost-effective execution of maintenance and turnaround activities. This role requires technical expertise, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a strong understanding of site operations and safety standards. The Supervisor plays a key role in coordinating turnaround planning, supervising contractor performance, and ensuring alignment with operational and strategic goals.

Responsibilities

Turnaround Execution & Contractor Supervision

  • Direct onsite contact for all onsite contractors within the Capital Project work scope
  • Lead daily activities of contractors for capital projects and turnaround events to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and schedule requirements.
  • Coordinate all phases of contractor work, including mechanical, electrical, janitorial, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and equipment replacement or installation.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues and provide on-site technical support when needed.
  • Participate as a project lead on any assigned capital projects

Planning & Project Coordination

  • Assist in developing and executing capital turnaround plans, including scope definition, scheduling, and resource planning.
  • Monitor work progress, adjust resources as needed, and ensure milestones are met.
  • Participate in pre-turnaround readiness reviews and post-turnaround evaluations.

Operational Excellence & Reliability

  • Identify and address root causes of equipment failures in collaboration with maintenance planners and engineers.
  • Recommend and support the implementation of improvements that enhance equipment reliability and turnaround efficiency.
  • Use performance metrics to drive accountability and continuous improvement among contractors.

Work Scheduling & Resource Allocation

  • Develop and manage short- to medium-term work schedules for contractor crews.
  • Approve contractor overtime and coordinate supplemental support during peak periods.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Enforce site HSE policies and ensure contractor adherence to safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Identify and correct unsafe behaviors or conditions; escalate issues when necessary.
  • Conduct job safety analyses (JSAs) and participate in safety meetings and audits.

Communication & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Act as the liaison between contractors and internal stakeholders such as operations, safety, Maintenance, and engineering.
  • Communicate daily capital activities, turnaround goals, progress, and issues clearly and regularly.
  • Facilitate cross-functional coordination to minimize operational disruption.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate documentation of contractor activities, work orders, equipment logs, monthly reports, and daily progress reports.
  • Provide regular updates and post-turnaround summaries for management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • A minimum of 10 years of industrial maintenance, capital project, or turnaround experience.
  • At least 5 years supervising contractors in an industrial setting (chemical, petrochemical, manufacturing, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of turnaround strategy, equipment reliability, maintenance best practices, and capital projects
  • Proficiency in SAP, CMMS, or equivalent systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of P6 scheduling is preferred
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication, presentation, interpersonal, creative thinking, consulting, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work to manage multiple projects to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving/decision-making skills.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Candidates must have a valid driver's license.
