Description

Job Title: Para Virtual School

Position Function: The position will provide guidance, support and supervision to students and their families during course work in a virtual school to promote and enhance the overall academic mission by providing services that strengthen home/school/community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning. The support from this position will ensure that each student has the opportunity to be successful in an online learning environment. This position significantly contributes to the development of student success and by implementing effective intervention strategies.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Monitor school-wide participation efforts with a two-fold focus:
  • Educating families on the importance of engagement with a focus on participation
  • In cooperation with certified teachers, this position will recommend student interventions and support materials to ensure students' individual needs and interests are met
  • Work with teachers to monitor student adherence to the school's attendance/participation policies and e-mails, calls and sends auto-dial notices to targeted student population
  • Recommend families to the grade-level teams for follow up meetings as necessary
  • Attend follow up meetings with program director
  • Ensure school/state compliance guidelines are met for student attendance, progress, and system logins
  • Empower students, families and school personnel to access available opportunities and resources to fully develop each student's potential in an online instructional environment.
  • Use knowledge and understanding of the reciprocal influences of home, school and community to intervene for student success via such practices as assessment, crisis intervention, home visits, conflict resolution, individual and group counseling, consultation, program development, tutoring, dropout prevention and coordinator of school and community services
  • Consult and collaborate with stakeholders on behalf of students and their families to ensure success in a virtual school setting.
  • Effectively plan, implement and evaluate programs that promote student and family success
  • Advocate, facilitate and contribute to accountability for outcomes aligned with local, state and federal policies and guidelines
  • Gather data for attendance reports for the district and state
  • Work with families and teachers to develop individualized action plans to increase student engagement
  • Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students and team members on a regular basis
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment for students by participating in activities including, but not limited to, the following: team meetings and staff development
  • Assist in remediation by pointing to resources such as tutoring, counseling, treatment plans or workshops
  • Has a strong understanding of relevant laws and policies such as FERPA, HIPPA and ensures that the school maintains compliance with these.
  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community

Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment: This position will require the ability to use office equipment such as computers, 3D printers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. It will be necessary to display ability to engage in online/blended activities utilizing software/websites that deliver content remotely. Employees must always comply with WPS guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.

  • Knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state, and local laws, rule and regulations
  • Utilizes all required and recommended computer applications
  • Works independently with little direct supervision
  • Works as part of a team; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.

Qualifications

Interrelations:

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service

Employee Punctuality And Appearance

  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee¿s supervisor
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position

Qualification Profile

  • Experience in a PreK-12 educational environment preferred; experience as a teacher/instructor preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Paras working in a Title School must have a minimum of 48 accredited college credits verifiable with a transcript or pass a state approved assessment
  • Associate's Degree preferred
  • At least 1 year of experience in a related field preferred
