Job Summary
- The Electrician is responsible for performing electrical construction, installation, alteration, service, and repair work across hospital systems, including lighting, power systems, appliances, and equipment
- This position ensures compliance with all applicable electrical codes and safety regulations
- The role supports the maintenance and operational readiness of critical infrastructure within an acute care hospital environment
- Perform electrical repairs and maintenance throughout the hospital, including lights, power systems, transformers, motors, and control circuits
- Test and maintain emergency generators and associated backup power systems
- Conduct routine inspections to ensure compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC) and local, state, and federal regulations
- Repair and maintain rooftop exhaust and ventilation systems
- Coordinate maintenance and servicing of patient beds, stretchers, and carts
- Assist other Plant Operations personnel with general duties as needed
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergencies after hours as required
- Interpret and work from wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals
- Document maintenance and repairs accurately in accordance with hospital protocols
- In-depth knowledge of electrical theory, systems, and applicable local and national codes (NEC, state building codes, JCAHO regulations)
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Basic computer proficiency preferred
- Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, push/pull, and lift up to 100 lbs
- Ability to work in varied environments including exposure to weather, noise, chemicals, and mechanical risks
- Commitment to safety, quality, and hospital values including diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and hospital personnel
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Post-secondary or vocational training in electricity is preferred
- Must possess a valid state-issued Driver's License
- Journeyman Electrician's License preferred or the equivalent knowledge and experience to obtain licensure
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in electrical work, preferably in a healthcare or acute care setting
- Experience with emergency power systems, ventilation systems, and general facility maintenance is desirable
