Job Description
Responsible for 24-hour service provided on or by a department/patient care unit. The mission of the institution is reflected in the provision of service in that the Director strives to provide an environment where holistic quality care is rendered and professional growth is available.
Responsibilities
Experience: Three years of health care experience
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Medical Technology
Licensure: LSBME Licensed as Clinical Lab Scientists, CLS-G or CLS-S

Responsibilities
- Critical Thinking
- Maintains timely and complete documentation relating to personnel files
- Identifies the number and level of personnel needed to provide quality patient care for age specific and diverse populations and adjusts staffing and assignments appropriately to maintain continuity of care. Participates and supports methods for determining acuity/guidelines for unit.
- Examines the delivery of patient care and identifies problems and any need for improvements
- Provides and proposes educational programs to hospital employees, medical staff, and community on items that will help promote their department/unit and the hospital
- Plans and arranges for department/unit meetings that are educational, problem solving and informative
- Assesses the need and participates in the budgetary process for a fiscal year
- Facilitates quality improvement process as related to improving patient care. Consistently submits required reports on timely basis.
- Administers and supervises the services of a department/unit to render patient care and related services to the patient. Holds self and staff accountable for the delivery of quality patient care
- Directs, supervises and participates in implementing planned changes and activities to improve patient care services in collaboration with the Administrator and/or Vice President of Patient Care Services
- Monitors the expenditures/revenue payroll of the department/unit. Maintains expenditures within budget guidelines to include volume
- Acts rapidly and effectively, follows hospital policies and procedures, and utilizes principles of management in emergency situations. Evaluates and recommends improvement in employee performance
- Directs and assists with orientation of new employees, provides assistance in development of competencies specific to the department/unit.
- Evaluates performance of personnel
- Develops, implements and revises policies and procedures, standards of care, standards of practice particular to the scope of care provided on or by that unit
- Service
- Interview applicants in accordance with personnel policies and procedures.
- Coordinates activities with other departments and divisions regarding needs of Patient Care Services
- Promotes harmonious relationships and favorable attitudes among the health care team.
- Keeps appropriate supervisor informed on reportable situations and department needs.
- Acknowledges patient and family values in all aspects of their care and services as a role model to the staff.
- Consistently exhibits concern for the dignity and welfare of patents and ensures confidence of privileged Information; acknowledges limitations of practice; maintains forthright and honest behavior at all times.
- Counsels and disciplines personnel as appropriate. Guides personnel when patient care conflicts with staff rights.
- Collaborates with appropriate supervisor to evaluate achievement of Patent Care Services objectives.
- Other Duties
- Consistently performs 12 organizational Service Standards focused on Values, Service and Quality.
