Primary Purpose Of Position
The OB/GYN Midwife provides clinically competent delivery of quality medical care services required during clinic operations. The role is responsible for providing clinically competent medical care services, within their scope of practice. The provider working at any site is responsible for safe patient care and ensuring adherence to all Policies and Procedures.
This position works in collaboration with other providers and members of the healthcare team to manage and care for patients in a wide range of traditional or non-traditional healthcare settings. This provider is responsible for direct patient care, including assessments, treatment, medication management, referrals, coordinating and monitoring care of patients with acute and chronic conditions.
This role is patient-facing and requires working in a clinical setting. It is also customer-facing with high expectations for clinical and operational excellence, including maintaining strict infection prevention and control practices. Sites may be located inside Military Treatment Facilities. The noise level is moderate and there is a potential for exposure to infectious diseases and blood-borne pathogens. Hours may vary based on location, patient volume, and business needs. This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.

Seeing and hearing alarms and settings during and after business hours and responding according to training and procedures. Setting and resetting devices with small knobs and handles. May be upright in motion and without rest for more than twenty-four (24) hours straight.

Core Duties
- Attend and/or comply with all annual training classes required.
- Actively participate in the organization's Performance Improvement Program. Participate in meetings to review and evaluate the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems exist.
- Manage labor/delivery, provide prenatal/postnatal care, newborn care, educate patients on childbirth and postpartum care.
- Collaborate with OB/GYN physicians for high-risk cases
- Provide OB/GYN care, managing prenatal/postnatal care, performing physical exams and diagnostic procedures.
- Educate patients on reproductive health
- Perform physical assessment and exam with special emphasis on the reproductive health, sexual health, psychosocial and OBGYN history of the patient.
- Manage the care of normal antepartum women to include teaching, counseling, and support.
- Manage uncomplicated pregnancies independently (inclusive of teaching, counseling and support).
- Manage complicated pregnancies through consultation and/or collaboration with OBGYN medical staff.
- Consult with other specialists, clinics, or health resources as indicated.
- Write prescriptions for needed medications including but not limited to contraceptive, diabetic, psychiatric, thyroid, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and pain management.
- Order laboratory tests and radiographic procedures as needed for diagnosis.
- Assess and treat the acute OBGYN patient with episodic illnesses and consults when needed.
- Assess and treat minor gynecological problems and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
- Treat partners of OBGYN patients with STDs.
- Develop health promotion and maintenance plans including disease prevention and health education counseling.
- Provide periodic health screening.
- Admit and discharge patients to and from OBGYN inpatient services.
- Facilitate transfer of care to another facility.
- Manage patients in labor, including inpatient orders, amniotomy, external and internal monitoring, initiation of induction/augmentation agents and analgesia using intramuscular and intravenous narcotics and potentiators, and local anesthesia administration.
- Manage cephalic deliveries, including repair of laceration or episiotomy.
- Assess and manage uncomplicated postpartum patients.
- Manage newborns, including airway management, resuscitation, endotracheal intubation, assignment of Apgar scores and initial examination.
- Identify and manage medical emergencies including but not limited to shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, uterine inversion, cord prolapse, and eclampsia.
- Provide clinical guidance for residents, trainees, students, rotators, new or temporary department members and other hospital staff.
- Maintain communications with professional organizations as necessary for career development, licensure and clinical continuing education.
- Provide comprehensive primary care to a select population of essentially healthy women and their babies in a variety of settings to include prenatal care, intrapartum management, postpartum care, immediate newborn care, and well-woman visits.
- Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
- Analyze and interpret histories, symptoms, physical findings, and diagnostic information.
- Maintain complete and detailed records of patients’ plans of care, documenting care within an appropriate time frame.
- Ensure appropriate follow-ups for all aspects of the care ordered.
- Provide clinical leadership and oversight of clinical/support staff while on shift, as required.
- Ensure patient screening, assessment, wellness checks, diagnosis, and treatment are done as per site guidelines.
- Provide patient treatment for acute and chronic care.
- Prescribe and/or dispense medication based on scope of practice.
- Provide oversight of clinical care procedures occurring during the shift.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the medical director to maintain a high level of patient-centered care.
- Provide documentation of fit testing or be fit tested for N95 respirator depending on the scope of operations.
- Perform any role at the site when needed or any other duties as directed by the clinical lead or Leadership as required based on scope of licensure.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Degree: Master's degree in nursing.
- Education: Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Certification: Midwives must have AMCB certification, OB/GYN or Women’s Health Nurse
- Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience with the last three (3) years as a Certified OBGYN Midwife .
- Licensure: Possess and maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in anyone (1) of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
- Collaborative physician agreement if applicable based on state scope of practice regulations
- Possession of NPI number
- Possession of DEA license
- Active ACLS and PALS (if position related to caring for peds patients) certification
- Active CPR/BLS certification
- Strong assessment skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working on a solutions-based team.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills are required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required.
- Practices within mandated scope of licensure/certification in the state
- Strong knowledge of infection prevention and control measures
- Must Provide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last two (2) years attesting to the HCWs’ clinical skills.
