Primary Duties

Your primary duties in this role will include

  • Assisting with the implementation of the L&I START Program, including documentation preparation, assessments, and compliance measures.
  • Reviewing, updating, and modernizing Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) to align with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting the implementation of safety management software (RAVE911), including data entry, user guidance, and troubleshooting.
  • Conducting policy and procedure research to assist in updating safety programs in compliance with Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) standards, OSHA regulations, and city policies.
  • Learning and assisting with risk management functions, including workplace hazard assessments, incident tracking, and safety audits.
  • Participating in facility walk-throughs to learn about potential safety hazards and contribute to mitigation planning.
  • Assisting with safety training and outreach efforts, developing materials for employee awareness and compliance programs.
  • Organizing, coordinating, and/or conducting the preparation and distribution of verbal and written safety-related communications.
  • Learning about regulatory compliance requirements related to workplace safety, including OSHA, WISHA, and L&I guidelines.
  • Composing, inputting, and editing a variety of reports, memoranda, and safety-related correspondence, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

In support of the team, you'll be assigned your own set of ongoing tasks dependent upon the needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for this position, you must be:

  • Pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degreein Occupational Safety & Health or Risk Management; or have obtained one in the last 12 months. AND
  • Enrolled in, or have successfully completed, an Occupational Safety & Health or Risk Management college course.

We would love it if you

  • Have knowledge of basic occupational safety principles, risk management, and workplace hazard identification, with familiarity (preferred) in OSHA, WISHA, and Washington State L&I regulations.
  • Are proficient in modern office practices and software.
  • Are skilled in clear oral and written communication and using interpersonal skills with tact and patience.
  • Have the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, maintain confidentiality, and build effective working relationships.
  • Have strong analytical skills to assess safety data, define problems, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Have the ability to work well in a team and present information professionally.

We are asking for a commitment through our 10-week program, fromJune 16th - August 22nd. Preference will be given to candidates that are available to work up to 40 hours per week throughout the program.If you are a top candidate, your availability and assigned schedule will be discussed with you before moving into the background check process.

Our core business hours are Monday - Friday, 8am to 5pm, with an hour for lunch. We are physically in the office every day, and you will have an assigned desk with a City issued computer! This position is not eligible for remote work, so you must be able to commit to being onsite to be considered for this role.

Additional Information

The pay rates for this position will be offered as follows

Freshman & Sophomores: Step 1 - $19.42

Juniors & Seniors: Step 2 - $20.95

Postgraduates: Step 3 - $22.48
