POSITION TITLE: Energy Efficiency Specialist
EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities & Maintenance
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months
Primary Purpose
Coordinate the technical operations of the energy management program. Assist in developing an integrated districtwide energy management program that ensures efficient and effective use of energy resources and meets the comfort, health, and safety needs of students and staff.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
Bachelor's Degree, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
Ability to learn energy management program development and implementation
Ability to learn heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems (HVAC)
Ability to use energy accounting and building automation software
Ability to analyze and interpret data, follow procedures, and implement policy
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
Knowledge of software to develop spreadsheets and databases
Effective organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills
Experience
Minimum two years' experience in public education or experience in energy management or related field
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Energy Management
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer, peripherals, devices, telephone, two-way radio; light truck or van
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching, climbing stairs/ladders, overhead reaching; visual acuity
Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance and more than 30 pounds with assistance
Environment: Work in office environment; occasional work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; occasional exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, humidity, loud noises, electrical hazards; may work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, work with interruptions

Major Responsibilities and Duties
Energy Management
- Analyze energy usage and conduct needs assessment for improvement of energy management procedures, equipment, and systems. Make recommendations for changes based on findings.
- Develop and implement control strategies in building automation software to increase energy efficiency of the HVAC and lighting systems.
- Work cooperatively with principals and facilities directors to support use of school facilities for extracurricular activities in a manner consistent with energy management guidelines.
- Assist in the oversight of installation, repair, and modification of energy management equipment in District facilities. Recommend the disposal and replacement of obsolete equipment when needed.
- Assist in developing and implementing the District's recycling and hazardous waste program.
- Compile, maintain, and issue reports, records, and other documents and data related to the energy management program.
- Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain familiarity of District policies, laws and regulations related to energy management.
- Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
- Participate in professional learning activities and training programs related to the energy management program, staff meeting, and special events as assigned.
- Effectively communicate with staff, vendors, and the community.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and serve as a role model.
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality of information.
- Articulate the District's mission and goals to the community and present a positive image of the District.
