Job Summary

The Operations Manager reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for overseeing the branch’s warehousing, delivery functions, inventory, and warehouse equipment. This position plays a key leadership role in aligning daily operations with Woodgrain’s growth strategy and ensuring team execution of business objectives, safety standards, and performance goals. This role requires a high degree of initiative, a results-driven mindset, and the ability to lead and motivate teams in a fast-paced and evolving environment. The ideal candidate will thrive under pressure, drive continuous improvement, and maintain a strong presence on the floor to ensure safety, efficiency, and quality throughout all operational areas.

Duties And Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Lead daily operations across Production, Warehouse, and Delivery functions
  • Ensure a safe working environment and full compliance with OSHA and company safety policies
  • Monitor and improve material, equipment, and labor efficiency
  • Review and analyze reports related to inventory accuracy, order fulfillment, and production output
  • Oversee quality control for millwork and door shop output to meet customer expectations
  • Ensure all team members are properly trained and cross-trained
  • Safeguard company assets through security protocols and process controls

Strategic Execution & Continuous Improvement

  • Translate Woodgrain’s strategic goals into actionable branch-level plans
  • Drive productivity improvements and waste reduction through proactive planning
  • Utilize Root Cause Analysis to address and permanently resolve operational issues
  • Engage associates in continuous improvement planning and execution
  • Communicate priorities and progress in daily team huddles and monthly department meetings

Leadership and Communication

  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork
  • Build trust and engagement among team members
  • Clearly communicate expectations and the importance of each associate’s role
  • Inspire a shared commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Directly supervise a team of Supervisors, Leads, and Operations Associates
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, coaching, and developing staff
  • Oversee daily planning, performance evaluations, and employee relations
  • Ensure all supervisory responsibilities are carried out in compliance with company policies and legal requirements

Requirements

  • Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3–5 years of experience leading a distribution center or branch operation
  • Experience in the millwork or building materials industry highly desirable

Skills & Knowledge

  • Proven ability to manage production, warehouse, and delivery operations
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to interpret financial reports and KPIs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word)
  • Familiarity with safety standards, inventory control, and production planning
  • Forklift certification may be required based on location

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Primarily based in a warehouse and production environment with occasional office duties
  • May require personal protective equipment (PPE) such as earplugs, eye protection, and steel-toe shoes
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move items weighing 10+ pounds
  • Requires approximately 5–10% travel
