Description

TITLE : Research Technician I, Study Services

REPORTING LOCATION: Rockville, MD

REPORTS TO: Head of Radiopharmacology

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: Perform cross-functional laboratory assays with a focus on synthesis and purification of radiolabeled compounds and their characterization. Assist in the development and execution of novel assays including collecting and processing data.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Perform bioconjugation reactions using bifunctional chelating agents and/or fluorescent labels
  • Perform synthesis and purification of radiolabeled compounds (e.g., PET/SPECT tracers, radiotherapeutics) using isotopes such as Lu-177, Ac-225, Pb-212, Cu-46 and Zr-89
  • Perform in vitro assays (e.g., receptor binding, internalization, stability studies) using radiolabeled compounds in cell-based systems.
  • Operate and maintain radiochemistry equipment including hot cells, dose calibrators, and automated synthesis modules.
  • Quantify radioactivity using gamma counters, scintillation counters, or autoradiography.
  • Ensure compliance with radiation safety protocols and institutional regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records in electronic lab notebooks (ELNs).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including in-vivo and ex-vivo.
  • Contribute to the development of SOPs and assay workflows for conjugation, radiolabeling and in vitro characterization assays of radiolabeled compounds.
  • Contribute to data processing and preparation for client presentation.
  • Maintenance of laboratory and supply inventory.
  • Contribute to the culture and demeanor of the radiopharmacology group by encouraging group cohesion and teamwork.
  • Other duties may be assigned verbally at any time.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience working in a laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency with one or more of the following techniques: weighing chemical substances, preparing buffers and chemical solutions, using micropipettes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and productively in a team-oriented environment while maintaining a strong sense of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound and accurate judgment in making timely decisions.
  • Eager to learn new techniques
  • Strong planning, organizational, computer, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated accountability, initiative, and responsibility for own work.
  • Ability to observe safety and security procedures.
  • Ability to assist with other tasks/duties as needed in a small company environment.

Education And Experience

  • BS or MS degree with 0-2 years of relevant experience required. Preferred field of study in radiochemistry, biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, biology, or related sciences.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment is required.
  • Experience performing chemistry or biochemistry reactions is preferred
  • Previous experience working with radioactive materials is preferred but training will be provided.

Physical Demands And Work Environment

  • Must be able to sit and use hands to finger, handle and feel.
  • Must be able to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 pounds .
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time using a computer in a typical office environment in a multi-level facility .
  • Some activities require repetitive motion and reaching, pulling, or pushing.
  • In carrying out the duties of the job there will be occasional exposure to fumes and chemical hazards.
  • Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood and tissue in BSL-2 environment.
