Overview
The primary purpose of the health educator is to; facilitate evidence-based curriculum with fidelity to youth between the ages 11-21 that encourages safe sexual behaviors and a reduction in STD/STI risk and adolescent pregnancy. Health educators will also serve as a resource to their community and organization connecting those in need to family planning resources, medical clinics, STI/STD testing, and other sexual health related resources.

Responsibilities
- Facilitate selected evidence-based curriculum with fidelity to youth between the ages of 11-21 in a group setting, that encourages
- abstinence or risk averse sexual behavior in order to reduce rates of STI/STD infection and pregnancy in the adolescent population.
- Complete mandatory training in delivery and implementation of evidence-based curriculum provided by technical assistance and training organization ACT4Youth prior to facilitating selected curriculum.
- Complete and participate in additional trainings created by ACT4Youth, NYF, and/or other community organizations/agencies/companies as assigned in order to develop and strengthen teaching dynamics and skill set in the classroom.
- Collect data as assigned such as demographical information, pre/post surveys and attendance of participants in all interventions and services provided, and qualitative data from facilitations.
- Report and accurately enter all data collected into the appropriate online databases provided by ACT4Youth (ORS) and NYF (Evolv) in an accurate and timely manner.
- Serve as an educational resource for participants, their caregivers and the community to access comprehensive sexual health/family planning services, medical services or other supportive services.
- Promote sexual health and wellness by delivering workshops, lectures and participating in community events such as health fairs, open houses and awareness initiatives.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of human sexuality, sexual behaviors, adolescent development, gender identity, and contraceptive use in a safe, supportive and confidential environment.
- Provide assistance and/or referrals for youth to obtain comprehensive family planning services, health services or other essential support services as identified.
Qualifications
- Applicant should have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in health education or health related field. An Associates degree may also be accepted with sufficient relevant experience.
- Applicant should be able provide and maintain non stigmatizing and inclusive environment for youth of all identifications, backgrounds, and cultures.
- Applicant should be able to facilitate discussion / teach classes to youth in a variety of settings on reproductive health topics such as reproductive anatomy, contraceptive methods, STIs, and HIV/AIDS.
- Applicant should have experience teaching/facilitating working with youth and the adolescent population.
- Applicant should have the ability to travel throughout NYC using public transportation, especially within the South Bronx and Upper Manhattan areas.
- Applicant should have availability outside of standard 9am-5pm working hours in order to meet the needs of the population inclusive of afterschool settings and/or evenings and weekends.
- Bilingual skills and/or Spanish speaking not required but applicants who have this ability are strongly encouraged to apply.
