INTRODUCTION

Part-time position primarily responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating the District’s outreach and education objectives as directed by the District Manager and the Board of Supervisors. Position will provide administrative support to the District Manager and partner agency staff as assigned by the District Manager. Responsibilities include developing and coordinating urban agriculture and youth public education classes and events, writing and procurement of grants, assisting with the district’s website and social media presence, keeping up with urban agriculture policy changes, and assisting with the development and coordination of newsletters. This position reports directly to the District Manager and has a strong relationship with cooperating agencies and organizations. The foundational goal of this position is to create a strong identity for the district and to engage the public through partnerships, outreach, and education.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Development, coordination, and presentation of conservation urban agriculture and youth education programs, classroom activities, teacher workshops, including scheduling and arranging tours, field days, fair displays, and/or meetings for groups interested in the conservation of natural resources.
  • Promote the adoption of conservation practices, including the development of displays, exhibits, and curricula on natural resources.
  • Organize, implement, and participate in public events, such as Earth Day, Soil Stewardship Week, Poster, Essay, Limerick, and Speech contests, Envirothon, etc.
  • Utilize the computer to effectively collect, manage, and disseminate information, including appropriate marketing materials.
  • Assist with updating the District website, Facebook page, and other social media.
  • Develop and submit monthly activity reports and periodic reviews of district youth and urban education and outreach programs.
  • Keep the district informed of urban agriculture policy changes in collaboration with our partnering groups.
  • Develop applications and assist in the implementation of grants that will provide funding for specific projects with an emphasis on outreach and information on conservation initiatives.
  • Attendance at KACD convention and other conservation-related events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience

Prefer a bachelor’s degree and/or experience in developing, administering, and evaluating adult/youth education programs. Applicable experience may be substituted for education. Business administration and fundraising experience are also preferred, along with strong computer skills. The Coordinator should be able to work with minimal supervision and self-initiate projects, possess excellent organizational skills, exhibit keen attention to detail, prioritize work effectively, and adjust to multiple demands. They should also have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as proficiency in MS Office Applications. Knowledge of the Kansas Academic Standards for Science and Technology is helpful. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Schedule - Days and hours are negotiable. 25 to 30 hours per week. Some weekend and evening work is required. Salary - $20-$25 an hour with a potential raise after annual review. Benefits:
