Speaking clearly from the Scriptures, camp speakers introduce kids to the person of Christ, the nature of humanity, the work of Christ on the cross, the hope of the resurrection and the opportunity for reconciliation with God.

Essential Duties

Quality Assurance

  • Develop, document and evaluate standards of operation, equipment and procedures in the area of Guest Services for all Young Life camps.
  • Pursue and maintain appropriate consultation avenues with others in the non-profit and business organizational industry on behalf of the department.
  • Solicit commentary on camping Guest Services from Young Life field staff. Evaluate suggestions and make appropriate recommendations as necessary.
  • Conduct quality assurance audits as necessary for training or evaluation purposes at various camps.
  • Coordinate safety standards for all program activities at Young Life camps with Young Life Risk Management.
  • Continually evaluate effectiveness of Young Life camp activities to achieve appropriate sense of adventure while adhering to cost and safety constraints.

Training

  • Collect and document best practices from various Young Life and industry resources. Maintain a list of resource material available for training purposes.
  • Work with the coordinator of camp staff training and development to develop and implement training objectives including a training syllabus for camp managers and Guest Services coordinators that will include hands-on training at local and various Young Life Guest Services operations capitalizing on staff resources.
  • Provide leadership to the Guest Services coordinators, Housekeeping supervisors, and challenge course supervisors (in conjunction with the camp manager) in an on-going basis as it relates to job performance, skills development, and training.
  • Work with assigned resource coaches and camp managers to ensure training goals are met for new Guest Services staff.

Organization

  • Maintain the department’s Guest Services Manual as a complete and usable tool for the operation of Young Life Guest Services.
  • Maintain regular contact with Guest Services coordinators, Housekeeping supervisors, and challenge course Supervisors in an effort to keep them aligned and informed as a team.
  • Coordinate and gain understanding, acceptance and support with national Camping leadership on various Guest Services initiatives. This includes documenting the progress of each camp with initiatives as well as developing progress reports and improvement plans for achieving organizational success.
  • Pursue standardized systems and processes for school season guest group communication.

Challenge Courses

  • Maintain the Challenge Course Manual as a complete and usable tool for the operation of Young Life Challenge Courses.
  • Manage national relationship with Young Life’s Challenge Course PVM.
  • Work with camp managers and GS staff to ensure compliance with ACCT, ASTM, and OSHA standards in challenge course activities.

Medical Services

  • Maintain the Medical Services Manual as a complete and usable tool for operating Young Life Infirmaries and medical services.
  • Manage and lead the national Medical Advisory Board.

National Purchasing

  • Identify products as candidates for a national purchasing strategy.
  • Work with purchasing manager to provide process for Guest Services and Housekeeping group buys.

Working Conditions

  • Office environment.
  • This position will require approximately one trip per month on average.

Education

  • Four-year college degree.

Experience Required For The Job

  • Young Life Camp Manager or Guest Services Management experience is highly desirable.

Young Life is a relational ministry. Staff must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern for guests and staff. Responding to the unexpected needs of a guest in a prompt and professional manner is important. All staff members are expected to represent Young Life positively and professionally within the community and be able to work with and minister to the volunteer high school and college-age young people who attend our camp.
