UI Developer
Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO)

Starting Salary Range: $92,000 - $109,000 - position is also eligible for an annual bonus if individual performance and company objectives are met.
As a UI Developer at MISO, you'll play a key role in connecting design and development - turning complex ideas into intuitive, accessible front-end experiences. You’ll transform our design system into scalable, production-ready code, collaborating with designers, CX partners, instructional designers, and product teams to enhance the user experience across all MISO tools and platform. You will contribute to the development and maintenance of a shared Angular-based component library, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and reusability across internal tools. You’ll modernize and enhance operator dashboards, refactor legacy UIs, and implement CX-driven improvements to reduce friction and boost adoption. Your work will also support accessibility initiatives by aligning with WCAG standards and establishing inclusive testing workflows.
As a UI Developer, You Will:
- Develop high-quality, accessible, and maintainable front-end code using HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like Angular or React, with a focus on responsive, user-friendly layouts across platforms and devices.
- Leverage and help expand a reusable component library using tools like Storybook, while enforcing UI/UX standards and integrating accessibility best practices (WCAG 2.1+).
- Collaborate with UX Designers to translate wireframes and user flows into functional interfaces, identifying technical constraints early and proposing creative, user-centered solutions.
- Partner with back-end developers to integrate APIs and data models, and support prototyping, user testing, and high-fidelity implementation of design solutions across tools.
- Work cross-functionally with CX Business Partners, Change Enablement, Learning & Development, and Agile teams to deliver intuitive workflows, seamless onboarding experiences, and consistent user experiences.
To be successful as MISO’s UI Developer, we are looking for the following:
- Front-End Expertise: Advanced in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (ES6+), with proficiency in modern frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue; skilled in using Git, build tools (e.g., Webpack, Vite), and package managers (npm, yarn).
- UI/UX & Design Systems: Experienced in responsive design, performance optimization, and cross-browser compatibility; familiar with component-based design systems and design tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
- Accessibility & Inclusive Design: Knowledgeable in WCAG guidelines, ARIA roles, and accessibility tools (e.g., axe, Lighthouse), with a strong commitment to inclusive and user-centered design practices.
- Collaboration & Communication: Effective communicator with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset; comfortable giving UX feedback, iterating on designs, and partnering across design and development teams.
- 6-8 years of relevant work experience.
Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience, knowledge, and skills.
