Controller (Remote)
Location Note – while this is a remote position, ideal candidates will be in the Washington DC/Baltimore metropolitan area for collaboration days with CFO and other members of the team.

As our Controller, you will report directly to our CFO/COO and own the accounting, reporting, and compliance functions. You’ll bring operational discipline and strategic insight to help Rubris scale sustainably. This is a hands-on role. While not supervising any staff, you will be expected to develop partnerships across the business and influence how we operate.

As our Controller, you will report directly to our CFO/COO and own the accounting, reporting, and compliance functions. You’ll bring operational discipline and strategic insight to help Rubris scale sustainably. This is a hands-on role. Key Responsibilities Include
- Preparing monthly and ad hoc financial reports for the CFO/COO, senior leadership, our Board of Directors, and stakeholders
- Ensuring compliance with GAAP, including ASC 606 revenue recognition
- Managing relationships with external auditors, accountants, and third-party vendors
- Partnering with senior leadership in People & Culture, Technology, Business Development, Legal and Compliance
- Reviewing contracts for revenue recognition compliance
- Implementing, enhancing, and maintaining accounting policies and procedures
- Managing budgets, forecasts and related analysis for review with CFO
- Performing , cash forecasting, billing, accounts payable, payroll, and month/year-end close processes
- Establishing internal controls and improving processes with automation tools
- Performing ad hoc financial analyses and providing insights to support strategic decision
- Experience: 7-10 yrs in an accounting or finance role, with at least 3 years’ experience as a Controller, ideally in a software or professional services environment. Big 4 experience a plus.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA required
- Expertise: Proficiency in GAAP and ASC 606, including applying these frameworks to complex transactions
- Tools: Skilled in QuickBooks, ADP, Stripe, and Bill.com; advanced Excel capabilities
- Accuracy and precision: Strong attention to detail with a focus on timely, accurate financials and insightful analysis
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative, professional approach
- Adaptability: Thrives in fast-paced environments with an interest in both execution and strategic input
