CAD Technician

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the CAD Technician is to create precise SolidWorks drawings for custom metal parts based on customer sketches or internal design concepts. These CAD files will be used to drive a water jet cutting machine. This position involves direct interaction with customers and requires both technical and communication skills. Over time, with training, the role will expand to include quoting and pricing responsibilities.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Create accurate 2D/3D SolidWorks models and drawings for metal parts
• Interpret sketches, customer drawings, or verbal instructions and convert them into production-ready CAD files
• Prepare digital files compatible with water jet cutting equipment
• Communicate directly with customers to clarify design requirements
• Collaborate with internal team members to ensure accuracy and meet production timelines
• Maintain and organize CAD file libraries
• Assist with pricing and quoting projects following training
  
  

Required Skills/Abilities

• Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software (2D and 3D)
• Ability to interpret technical sketches and mechanical drawings
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for customer interaction
• Technologically proficient and adaptable to learning new software and tools
• Mechanically inclined with an understanding of industrial materials and fabrication processes
• Detail-oriented and capable of handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• High school diploma or GED required; technical certifications are a plus
