In this position...
- Supply Chain Manager leads a section of buyers responsible for:
- Inbound Rail, Outbound Rail, Intermodal buying and deployment category and commodity strategies
- Premium buying and commodity strategy in multiple modes
- Value chain optimization for our MP&L, Manufacturing Plants and FCSD customers
- Network optimization initiatives
- Serves as the Supply Chain interface with enterprise thought Leaders on network design, industry benchmarks, and operational excellence
- Drives team to achieve enterprise synergies, scale, and optimal commonality
- Creates leverage by fully understanding the industry and anticipating changing demands 5-10 years out
- Seeks to understand the total value equation– short term and long term – in decision making (revenue, margin, capital needs, infrastructure needs, etc.)
What you'll do...
- Actively manage supplier relationships:
- Lead Supplier Business Unit Review (BURs) to address any performance gaps, harvest industry benchmarking, and drive strategic alignment
- Lead team to manage suppliers via KPI and SLA metrics – drive high customer satisfaction and continuous improvement with performance rewards/penalties
- Establish and monitor supply risk mitigation plans through the tiers
- Lead team to develop strategies that deliver cost-effective, efficient, sustainable solutions:
- Develop category strategy plans for Rail and Carhaul needs
- Negotiate MSAs, with SOWs, Service-Level-Agreements, KPI metrics, and supplier governance processes to deliver consistently high-quality services
- Secure favorable buy terms and claims management to sufficiently protect the business (e.g. IP rights, liability, warranty)
- Ability to work cross functionally with Ford’s Lead Logistics Provider and North American Logistics team to understand the Network design and complications, and help source to maximize the efficiency within the Network
- Drive Purchasing discipline:
- Keep commodity/category strategy live in Commodity Strategy System
- Ensure Purchasing Policy and Procedures are followed – appropriate sign-off on contracts, risk assessments, deviations in accordance with Delegations of Authority
- Utilize external procurement benchmarking tools to support sourcing actions
- Lean into dashboard creation and usage
- Understand industry trends and associated data analytical trends to support sourcing decisions
You'll have...
Minimum
- Bachelor's degree required
- 5+ years of progressive experience in procurement or strategic sourcing, with a significant focus on indirect categories
- Strong business acumen, team building, collaboration, and communication skills – demonstrated ability to successfully lead cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical skills - understanding of cost drivers and cost modeling
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills
- Proficiency in procurement software, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Agile and able to embrace a fast-paced environment that is evolving
- Ability to develop and communicate strategic and analytical viewpoints to purchasing leadership, carrier base, and internal customers
Preferred
- Master's degree in a related field or MBA
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Logistics or a related field
- Strategic mindset – curious, creative, and ability to see the bigger picture
- Logistics experience a plus
