The Corporate Controller will be a member of Senior Management with oversight of all accounting controls and reporting responsibilities. This oversight includes hospitality, commercial real estate, building materials, and corporate divisions and partnerships, oversight of Accounting departments, financial reporting for internal and external users, including bank compliance, audit, tax, and Board of Directors. Departments include three satellite income audit offices, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll. This position reports directly to ALJSCO Management’s Vice President of Finance.

Safety and Environmental Performance

  • Lead the safety effort by personal example
  • Support full hotel compliance with safety rules to further our goal of zero (0) accidents and encouragement of reporting and correcting near misses
  • Adhere to SOPs and other work procedures as required to assure guest satisfaction and consistencies to our customers
  • Immediately report all injuries to the supervisor or manager on duty and to the security manager on duty

Work Requirements

  • Responsible for the consistency, accuracy and timeliness of accounting transactions, source documents and records
  • Responsible for the preparation, evaluation, and analysis of all reports, including consolidated and individual property income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements for the hotel, commercial real estate, and construction divisions
  • Responsible for the oversight of customer credit and accounts receivables for the company
  • Initiate and participate in the implementation of information systems within the hotels and other entities, concentrating on the improvement of the quality, brevity and timeliness of the information
  • Collaborate on the design and development of financial management reports and procedures for use by operating teams
  • Ensure that internal controls are adequate to properly safeguard the assets
  • Serves as primary contact between business operations and the corporate accounting office, information technology and risk management
  • Compile budgets and forecasts covering all activities
  • Oversees cash handling operations and procedures
  • Continuously seek opportunities to optimize processes and leverage emerging technologies for financial operations.
  • Prepares various analytic reports outlining the financial position in areas of income, expense and earnings based on past, present and future operations
  • Ensure proper procedures and controls for purchasing, receiving, and requisitioning
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Hospitality, or related field
  • Five years of progressive experience in financial analysis, budgeting and/or accounting within the hospitality industry
  • Strong understanding of financial statement consolidation
  • Experience managing a team with a focus on staff development preferred
  • Experience with/or managing a purchasing department and cost controls preferred
  • Understanding of financial concepts and practices, and what drives financial performance
  • Ability to interpret technical information for use in providing informational management reports
  • Familiarity with Property Management Systems, Point of Sale Systems, Microsoft Office software, Accounting software and Accounting Procurement software
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret financial statements and forecasts
  • Demonstrates initiative, leadership, and entrepreneurial drive to improve financial performance whenever and wherever possible
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and written, with all levels of management, staff and external guests

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Renovation/Construction, pre-opening and re-positioning experience is a plus.

Working Conditions

This job operates in a corporate office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, smartphones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners. Occasional travel within the local area may be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
