Description

Summary: Provides legal and administrative support to attorneys specializing in the areas of estate administration, trust administration, and estate planning. Maintains positive client contact and observes confidentiality of client matters. Assists with practice management and office operations.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assist with completion of probate forms, releasing liens, court orders, and other related documents;
  • Prepare and file documentation necessary for appointment of fiduciary and allowance of wills;
  • Assist with estate planning process, including gathering information, drafting documents, and conducting signing appointments;
  • Assist with trust funding including form completion, coordination with financial advisors, and recording documents with appropriate registries;
  • Assist with real estate related matters in conjunction with trusts;
  • Gather date of death values, compiles information for estate tax returns;
  • Maintain systems for tracking deadlines and follow-ups;
  • Assist attorneys with client billing, including: reviewing for accuracy, sorting by bill type, reviewing with attorney, and communicating with Accounting Department;
  • Communicate with clients for improved client experience and relationship maintenance;
  • Assist attorneys with general office and practice procedures to maintain workflow; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of estate taxation and familiarity with the requirements of Probate Court;
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and follow instructions effectively and efficiently and to provide information with courtesy and tact;
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to maintain effective relationship with clients, other professionals, attorneys, managers, and all other Fletcher Tilton PC staff;
  • Ability to represent Fletcher Tilton PC in a professional capacity to clients and related professionals;
  • Strong writing and analytical skills, as well as ability to proofread and produce documents that are neat, attractive, and free from errors;
  • Must have good word processing skills and ability to work with a personal computer, operate standard office equipment such as photocopiers, facsimile machines, personal computer, typewriter and calculator;
  • Must be well organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated, with ability to take responsibility for seeing all aspects of tasks through to the end;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints; ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail;
  • Ability to draft and type standard memoranda and business correspondence; and
  • Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors.

Credentials And Experience

  • Four-year college degree or formal paralegal training, or equivalent legal experience;
  • Training and substantial experience in estate administration, trust administration, probate, or related field; and
  • Familiar with estate tax return software, Excel and other estate and probate related software.

Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, be able to compose effective letters, communicate clearly with clients, and possess good attention to detail. Experience with probate, estate tax returns, deed preparation, and Medicaid applications is helpful but not required, as we are willing to train in these areas.
