EXAMPLES OF WORKED PERFORMED FOR PAYROLL ACCOUNTANT:

  • Maintain payroll-related general ledger accounts and ensure an accurate financial recording of all payroll transactions.
  • Compile and prepare journal entries for each payroll cycle, including semi-monthly and weekly runs, in accordance with established accounting principles.
  • Perform detailed reconciliations for payroll-related accounts to ensure consistency and compliance with internal controls.
  • Utilize accounting knowledge to report employee compensation, including salaries, wages, bonuses, overtime, and payroll taxes, as well as employer-paid benefits such as vacation, holidays, sick leave, paid time off, medical insurance, and state unemployment insurance.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management to complete workers’ compensation reports and prepare monthly billing statements.
  • Prepare and analyze Sales Manager commission reports for each payroll.
  • Input and validate payroll data within the HRIS system, ensuring accuracy across all data points.
  • Resolve complex payroll issues and respond to employee inquiries related to compensation, taxation, and deductions.
  • Set up and audit payroll elements such as advances, auto allowances, and 401(k) loans.
  • Download and consolidate multiple payroll reports, including cash requirement summaries, 401(k) funding reports, and executive payroll summaries.
  • Support internal and external audits by compiling necessary documentation and providing detailed reporting.
  • Prepare monthly Bureau of Labor Statistics reports and collaborate on quarterly payroll tax report reviews to confirm alignment with payroll records.
  • Compile and submit the annual 401(k) census report.
  • Create and manage intercompany payroll journal entries, including wage reallocations for employees working across multiple locations.
  • Verify annual W-3 summary data and act as a key liaison between Payroll, Accounting, and Tax departments by producing reports and analyses as needed.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll anomalies, ensuring timely communication with management and other stakeholders.
  • Provide support to Human Resources and perform additional accounting-related duties as assigned by management.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS FOR PAYROLL ACCOUNTANT: Bachelor’s degree required; job requires knowledge of generally accepted principles and practices and laws related to payroll (including earnings/wages, tips, bonus information, legally allowed deductions, etc.), taxes, and benefits (employee and employer paid); experience in all areas of payroll; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel required; experience in service industry payroll/accounting practices preferred (not required); excellent communication skills both verbal and written; ability to handle confidential information; must be at least 21 years of age with a valid Driver’s License with no more than 2 moving violations and/or 1 chargeable accident within the last three years positive attitude when working with customers; knowledge of employment, merchandise handling and safety procedures.
