Position Overview
The Student Support Coach is responsible for student discipline, behavior intervention, teacher professional development, parent communication, 504 implementation, and student attendance. This person will oversee and coordinate our Behavior Intervention Team that addresses students' unsuitable behaviors. This person will provide classroom and school-wide behavior management strategies, which include mentoring, coaching, behavioral support and family/community resources.
This person provides expertise and direction to design, implement, coordinate and evaluate a comprehensive behavior support program. In addition, this person works directly with students who have been identified as needing supplemental behavior support identified to adopt behaviors that substantially increase their academic performance. Under the supervision of the administrative team this person will provide diversified strategies and activities specifically designed for targeted students. This person communicates directly with parents and teachers regarding student behavior and discipline outcomes.

Essential Functions

Specific tasks, responsibilities or competencies may be documented in the incumbent’s performance objectives as outlined by the incumbent’s immediate supervisor or manager.
- Exercises appropriate leadership to recommend, administer and enforce building policies and procedures related to attendance and discipline.
- Supervises and is responsible for the maintenance and management of each student’s attendance and discipline records and policies as well as communication with parents and staff.
- Plans and implements preventive disciplinary measures through Behavior Intervention Team support.
- Acts as the 504 Site Designee overseeing the 504 process.
- Train and assist staff in professional development that targets research based strategies including: defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; deescalating negative emotions and identifying antecedents.
- Facilitate professional development that: designs behavior interventions plans, addresses classroom management deficiencies, shares effective instructional strategies and reviews social skills instruction.
- Conduct classroom observations of teachers and students to obtain anecdotal data that will allow the development of strategies to address behaviors and/or observe the effectiveness of interventions.
- Guide and assist students in assessing their own behavior.
- Encourage recognition of student accomplishments and positive behaviors.
- Engage and empower parents by providing them with techniques that support positive behavior development.
- Teach conflict resolution strategies to all stakeholders.
- Conduct a consistent analysis of all BIT data reports of identified group.
- Participate in grade level PLC meetings, as appropriate.
- Conduct threat assessments as needed and consult with school personnel and community resources, such as crisis response and/or DCS to provide alternative support systems
- Assists in the implementation and plan for proper conduct of participants and spectators at all public events.
- Facilitate community outreach opportunities for students and parents such as: bullying awareness, walker safety, fire safety, and drug prevention.
- Attend professional development opportunities to be abreast of current research and practices.
- Organize and schedule time commitments to meet demands of the job.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures; report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
- Initiate team efforts in developing plans that will support school goals.
- Provide support to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
- Follows up on all phone calls and emails daily – respond within 24 hours.
- Complete additional tasks outside of regular school hours as assigned by site administration.
- Travel to required district meetings.
This additional assistance will allow additional time for administration to lead in the following areas:
- Higher level support with regards to instructional leadership.
- Leadership in the planning, implementation and evaluation of instructional programs through data review; i.e. student related data, teachers, feedback from parents, etc.
- Supervision and management support for student activities such as: EL program supervision, LKC/Community Ed development and organization, Athletics organization and implementation, academic competitions, high stakes testing and other campus-wide activities/events.
- Supervision and management support for new teachers, struggling teachers/teams, and support staff.
- Participate more actively with parent outreach for academically struggling students.
Education, Licensure, or Certification
- Minimum of three to five years teaching experience
- Masters Degree in Education or Education Administration is preferred.
- Knowledge of intervention planning to increase appropriate behaviors at school and home.
- Ability to plan and evaluate strategies for improving student behavior.
- Ability to forge relationships with students, parents, and teachers.
BACKGROUND CHECKS
- The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check
- Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times
- NV Fingerprint Background Check
- Travel between campuses is required from time to time.
- This position requires the need to lift objects (up to 25 pounds) on occasion.
- This position may require sitting for long periods at times, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping and long periods of concentration.
- Local and in-state travel required.
