DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
Position will typically hire at minimum pay and follow a step progression to maximum
This position is responsible for performing tree removal and/or maintenance tasks. Responsibilities may include planting and/or removing trees; maintaining equipment; and responding to inquiries. May oversee work of contractors or other employees in lower classifications.
Duties And Responsibilities
Knowledge, Skills And Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to mechanical parts, fumes, gases, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noise, and environmental threats.
Experience And Training/Licensing Requirements
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Associate's degree; or, High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and 2 years of related experience; or, all required certification(s); or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

- Removes and/or trims trees; plants and maintains trees; analyzes trees to identify disease and pest issues; determines methods of resolving disease and pest issues.
- Maintains equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Responds to inquiries regarding tree issues and conditions.
- Performs snow and/or stump removal as needed.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.
Knowledge, Skills And Physical Requirements
- Tree trimming, treatment, and removal methods.
- Occupational hazards and safe work methods and practices.
- Applicable insects and diseases.
- Customer service principles.
- Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
- Applicable equipment.

Licensing Requirements
- Electrical Hazard Awareness Certification (Must obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Certified Line Clearance Preferred
- Certified Pesticide Applicator 3a,3b, 6, and Right of Way (Must obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Valid State of Michigan Driver's License (Must obtain CDL Class A within 180 days of hire)
- Satisfactory completion of background check and a pre-employment physical and drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act but not those legalized under Michigan law.
- All appointees are subject to a one-year probationary period.
