Job Title: Lead Teacher, Arizona

Reports To: Education Coordinator

FLSA: Salary, Non-Exempt – Full-time position

Work Location: Reds Player Development Complex; Goodyear, Arizona

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to players of varying language proficiencies (in-person and virtual)
  • Plan curriculum and create lesson content to be used in the Reds Education curriculum
  • Teach High School (HS) content classes following the formal program curriculums to small groups of players and in a 1-on-1 format (in-person and virtual)
  • Assist the Education Coordinator with gathering documentation, the high school enrollment process, and administration
  • Coordinate and attend all required MLB education workshops stateside with the Education Coordinator
  • Perform player language and learning style assessments, and provide individual progress reports as needed
  • Plan and attend high school graduation ceremonies, educational outings, cultural events and community service events
  • Monitor and follow-up with English class attendance and collaborate with other departments to avoid scheduling conflicts
  • Troubleshoot technology used in the ESL and HS programs (Zoom, educational platforms, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Adhere to professional boundaries with both players and staff members
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive awareness and sensitivity towards cultural differences and traditions
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to work long, flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays and some overtime throughout the year
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and be a self-starter
  • Must have excellent communication skills, good grammar, voice, and diction, strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented spirit to provide exceptional service
  • Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software for administrative tasks (Teamworks, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Strong digital literacy skills (Zoom and educational platforms on a desktop and mobile device)

Experience, Education, And Licensure

  • Prior teaching experience in a high school or adult education, ESL experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field/Masters degree preferred

Requirements

  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) required
  • Ability to travel to affiliates within the United States and the Dominican Republic
  • Must have valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Willing to relocate. Position is based at the Reds Player Development Complex in Goodyear, Arizona
