Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our

Underwriting team and has an opportunity for an Associate Underwriter.

This position is responsible for evaluating risk, supporting

underwriting decisions, and assisting in the continuous improvement of

underwriting practices. This role ensures compliance with corporate and

regulatory guidelines while contributing to the development of tracking

systems and process enhancements. The Associate Underwriter collaborates

with the Manager Underwriting, Supervisor Underwriting, Underwriting

Analysts, and key stakeholders in Sales, Rating, Actuarial, and other

departments to improve risk evaluation, streamline workflows, and

maintain underwriting integrity.

This position is eligible to work remotely, hybrid or onsite in

accordance with our Telecommuting Policy. Applicants must reside in

Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of

employment.

**What youll do**

  • Conduct risk evaluations for individuals and employer groups,

ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and corporate

policies.

  • Assist in tracking underwriting activities, supporting the

development of a structured system for underwriting decisions and

maintaining documentation for audits and reporting.

  • Participate in routine evaluations of underwriting practices,

identifying areas for improvement and recommending process

enhancements.

  • Assist in developing risk mitigation strategies, collaborating with

leadership to assess trends and adjust underwriting methodologies

accordingly.

  • Support the onboarding and training of new underwriters, helping

establish and maintain a structured underwriting training program.

  • Partner with Sales, Rating, Actuarial, and other internal teams to

ensure underwriting decisions align with business objectives and

risk tolerance.

  • Analyze underwriting data and trends to enhance decision-making and

refine underwriting models.

  • Provide documentation and reporting on underwriting outcomes, risk

assessments, and key decision metrics to support leadership

oversight.

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including

underwriting eligibility and participation guidelines.

  • Assist in process improvement initiatives, identifying

inefficiencies and implementing workflow enhancements.
