Description

Provide high-quality, comprehensive primary care medical services to the patients of Utah Partners for Health in accordance with training, experience and licensure through screening, counseling, education, appropriate referrals, management of chronically and acutely ill patients and the provision of selected interventions according to standards of care and UPFH policies and protocols.

Role And Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care including general adult care, obstetrics, family planning, and pediatric care.
  • Obtain health histories, conduct medical exams utilizing age-appropriate methods, order and interpret diagnostic tests (i.e. x-rays or blood tests) to diagnose a patient’s injury or illness.
  • Prescribe drug therapy according to standard medical practice and within prescriptive practice regulations.
  • Educate and counsel patients and their families, answer questions about follow-up, proper care and long-term health.
  • Perform procedures common to primary care practices including but not limited to skin procedures, birth control provision (IUD, implants), toenail removal, joint injections, e.g.
  • Maintain computerized patient medical records, treatment records, patient progress and proper documentation with confidentiality.
  • Perform accurate billing for patient care rendered within expected timeframes.
  • Supervise, mentor, train, discipline and evaluate the Medical Assistants. Set staff expectations and goals and resolve conflict. Interview, hire and provide orientation for new staff. Understand, promote and educate staff on all UPFH policies and clinical protocols.
  • Recognize and respond to emergencies.

Other Duties As Assigned

  • Travel to Mobile Clinic sites to support patients in those locations.
  • Participate in staff, QA/QI meetings, provider meetings
  • Coordinate the supervision and training of students and residents.
  • Participate in chart audits to assess success of QA/QI program.
  • Participate in case peer review, management review, and provider education and discussions.
  • Research the latest treatments to ensure the quality of patient care.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Licensure

  • Medical degree from an accredited program approved by the State of Utah.
  • Proof of successful completion of 3-year residency training program
  • Licensure by the State of Utah.
  • Must be certified in Basic Life Support.
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance and registration, and travel throughout clinic sites is required.

Experience

  • Experience using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems such as USIS, ECW
  • Experience as a Provider in a health care center, medical office or equivalent is recommended.
  • Medical Spanish or Portuguese Language fluency is preferred.

Skill & Competencies

  • Knowledge of technical diagnostic, procedural, and medical practices.
  • Knowledge of prescription of medications.
  • Ability to handle delicate equipment, knowledge of medical instruments, equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to assess verbal presentations of patients.
  • Ability to build therapeutic relationships
  • Knowledge of computer applications and equipment related to work.
  • Skills in supervising staff and departments.
  • Ability to address problems positively and non-defensively.
  • Ability to build interpersonal relationships and deliver excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
