Short Description
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) will spearhead the strategic growth and development of disease-specific cancer programs, including breast, GI, and lung, across the cancer center. The AVP will work closely with clinical, operational, and physician stakeholders to enhance access, optimize care coordination, and increase patient volumes in alignment with institutional priorities and national best practices.
Overview
Strategic Cancer Program Development
Objective: Build and enhance disease site programs that reflect evidence-based care models and MD Anderson standards/best practices.
Objective: Increase new patient volumes and market share through targeted strategies.
Objective: Ensure timely access and care continuity for cancer patients across the care continuum.
Objective: Track and report key performance indicators related to program development and growth.
Objective: Leverage internal and external partnerships to elevate program reputation and referral base.

The AVP will work closely with clinical, operational, and physician stakeholders to enhance access, optimize care coordination, and increase patient volumes in alignment with institutional priorities and national best practices.
Overview
Strategic Cancer Program Development
Objective: Build and enhance disease site programs that reflect evidence-based care models and MD Anderson standards/best practices.
- Take the lead in coordinating multidisciplinary planning meetings for each disease site, including quarterly meetings and conducting gap analyses.
- Define infrastructure and resource needs, including staff, space, and technology, to support each program.
- Collaborate effectively across departments to ensure smooth integration of diagnostics, surgery, medical, radiation oncology, and support services.
Objective: Increase new patient volumes and market share through targeted strategies.
- Analyze referral patterns and leakage data to inform growth opportunities.
- Partner with marketing and physician relations to develop outreach strategies to community providers.
- Provide support in recruiting key physician talent, such as surgical oncologists and sub-specialists, to facilitate growth.
Objective: Ensure timely access and care continuity for cancer patients across the care continuum.
- Monitor and improve scheduling practices, referral management, and patient navigation.
- Collaborate with access and intake teams to streamline new patient workflows.
- Identify and address barriers to timely diagnosis and treatment initiation.
Objective: Track and report key performance indicators related to program development and growth.
- Establish and monitor dashboards for disease site volumes, referral sources, and operational performance.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to drive quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure alignment with accreditation standards (e.g., CoC, NAPBC).
Objective: Leverage internal and external partnerships to elevate program reputation and referral base.
- Actively engage with affiliated practices, joint ventures, and academic partners to align protocols and collaboratively manage complex cases.
- Participate in system-wide cancer program development discussions to promote consistency and scalability.
- 7+ years experience leading, optimizing, and growing complex healthcare teams, in cancer service lines.
- Highly skilled senior leader or consultant with experience in cancer service line operations in healthcare, a world-class consulting organization, or Fortune 500 leadership positions; familiarity with healthcare team leadership required.
- Success in leadership of complex teams, strategic alliances, and change management projects; experience with organizational development and business unit innovation; proven ability to attract and retain top talent; expertise in producing and executing high quality business plans.
- Extensive experience in working with senior leadership with respect to optimizing the work of a large, complex organization.
- Thorough and broad understanding of current issues and future challenges facing healthcare delivery systems, especially in cancer service lines, preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively diagnose, isolate, and resolve complex problems pertaining to business operations, organization development, customer satisfaction, and change management.
- BA/BS required. Master’s degree preferred in business, healthcare administration, or operations management
