The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.
HRA/General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA’s various social service programs. Its many functions include facilities planning and coordination, design and construction, renovation, repair and maintenance, custodial and other building services, health/safety program coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration for facilities services, and warehouse operations. GSS plays a major role in HRA emergency preparedness.

General Support Services (GSS)/Office Of Media Production And Records Management Is Recruiting For One (1) Graphic Artist I To Function As a Graphic Artist Who Will
- Assist with the design and production of materials for publication purposes using a variety of art media. Prepare materials such as stationery, certificates, posters, signage, presentations, and training manuals. Create and maintain master design templates and layouts using text, photos, illustration, charts, infographics etc. for marketing materials to be used by others. Prepare print-ready files for digital production.
- Use the agency web to print application, Design and Print Ordering System (DPOS), to review and edit materials submitted for printing. Assist with maintaining and keeping DPOS marketing materials up to date. Upload new or revised publications to the website. Review and organize listed categories. Create website banners and icons to represent Agency’s specific services.
- Provide customer service to staff and NYC Agencies inquiring about issues related to DPOS requests. Communicate with clients and gather information needed to review designs submitted for printing purposes to ensure print readiness. Recommend correct file format and right method of placing requests in the system. Provide detailed instructions for various type of requests such as printing, design or promotional items. Ensure that designs and printing materials adhere to Agency Brandling Guidelines and printing industry standards.
- Assist with selecting and processing of Promotional Items to make them available in DPOS site. Take photographs, edit and upload to website.
- Research new and innovative graphic design and printing solution, resources and technique that are current in the marketplace.
- Operate printing machines and finishing equipment for all collateral materials designed in-house. Assist Director in tracking and ordering inventory, such as paper/ink/stationery supplies and equipment. Assist in the maintenance of printing and finishing equipment. Perform other Graphic Artist related support functions as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree, with a major in fine or graphic arts, from an accredited college and one year of full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist; or
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus two years of training in a technical school approved by a state’s Department of Education or comparable governmental agency, in oils, water colors, painting, design, black and white, layout, computer graphics, and other art media, and three years of acceptable full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist.
- at least one year of experience as a Graphic Artist, Assignment Level I; or
- the Qualification Requirements described in "1" or "2" above, plus two additional years of acceptable specialized paid experience conceptualizing and initiating graphic art projects.
- Proven design skills with an ability to quickly and creatively develop materials - Experienced in page layout (especially in booklet, newsletter and brochure) - Ability to use design to reinforce the image and impact of a program unit/organization - Ability to make complex information compelling and comprehensible - Experience utilizing graphical software especially in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop. - Proficient in the use of Adobe CS Suite, Microsoft Office Suite - An understanding of print production process. - Experience in printing, a plus. - Excellent verbal, writing and organizational skills. - Must be detail oriented. - Self-Starter and highly motivated - Ability to work both independently and with a team.
