The Senior Software Engineer I plays a critical role in shaping and maintaining key systems that power Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ auction, operational, and e-commerce platforms. This position blends advanced technical contributions with leadership responsibilities across the software development lifecycle.

As a senior member of the engineering team, this individual is expected to own complex initiatives, drive architectural decisions, and mentor junior developers. The role requires proficiency in both backend and frontend technologies, a solid understanding of modern development practices, and the ability to collaborate closely with cross-functional partners including Product, QA, and Infrastructure.

This is a hands-on technical role suited for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is eager to take ownership of solutions from concept through deployment.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership:

  • Lead the design and implementation of robust, scalable systems and services across backend and frontend components.
  • Make architectural decisions and influence system design to support long-term platform scalability and maintainability.
  • Ensure adherence to secure coding practices and performance standards.

Mentorship & Collaboration

  • Guide and mentor software engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical coaching.
  • Collaborate with product owners and QA to translate business needs into practical technical solutions.
  • Participate in technical planning and sprint reviews, and help prioritize engineering initiatives.

Development

  • Write clean, maintainable code.
  • Develop and maintain frontend components using TypeScript and modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React or Vue).
  • Build and consume RESTful APIs and services.

Quality & Operations

  • Drive quality through unit testing, automated testing, and CI/CD processes.
  • Troubleshoot issues in development and production environments.
  • Work with DevOps tools and cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, GitHub Actions) to support continuous integration and deployment.

Learning

  • Stay updated with industry trends, tools, and technologies to continuously improve skills and knowledge.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field

Experience

  • Five (5) plus years of experience working in a corporate IT environment

Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of programming languages such as PHP, C#, and JavaScript
  • Familiarity with Jira tools and fundamental Agile principles and practices
  • Excellent grasp of web technologies (HTML, CSS, RESTful APIs)
  • Advanced understanding of databases (SQL, NoSQL).
  • Adept at leveraging Github for code management
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced corporate environment, enjoy fast prototyping and iteration, with strong motivation to build great products

Certifications

  • Azure Fundamentals or Azure Developer Associate a plus

Salary Range: $145,000 - $185,000 / Annually
