A little about the position:
The Director of Finance is a senior financial leader responsible for managing the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance functions across multiple entities. This role oversees operational and financial accounting, budgeting, treasury management, manages IT functions, and tax compliance to ensure the integrity of financial data and the efficiency of internal controls. The Director provides timely and accurate financial reporting to support strategic decision-making, working closely with the CEO and leadership team to drive financial performance and ensure regulatory compliance.
A successful candidate must have a strong background in the beef protein industry, with a deep understanding of its unique financial, operational, and regulatory complexities.
Operational Accounting
Location: Hybrid (out of state weekly travel) with remote a possibility if the Candidate has a background in finance and the beef industry.

This role oversees operational and financial accounting, budgeting, treasury management, manages IT functions, and tax compliance to ensure the integrity of financial data and the efficiency of internal controls. The Director provides timely and accurate financial reporting to support strategic decision-making, working closely with the CEO and leadership team to drive financial performance and ensure regulatory compliance.

Operational Accounting
- Lead the review and preparation of reports that summarize and forecast company performance, including month-end reports, such as income, expenses, and earnings, based on historical data, current operations, and future projections.
- Oversee the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts in collaboration with department heads.
- Provide financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and deliver insights into company performance.
- Manage all internal and external audit functions to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Oversee insurance coverage across all Meyer entities, ensuring adequate protection against property losses and liabilities.
- Develop and implement financial and operational strategies by forecasting capital needs, staffing requirements, and facility investments.
- Analyze key performance metrics and operational data to support business planning and continuous improvement.
- Supervise the daily operations of the financial accounting department to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage core accounting functions, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), sales, banking, and fixed asset tracking.
- Oversee and manage the month-end and year-end close processes.
- Collaborate with the CEO to review and finalize the monthly financial reporting package.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing and compliance for:
- Sales, use, and excise taxes
- Property tax returns
- Annual corporate filings
- 1099 reporting
- Monitor financial performance and assess organizational exposure to financial risks.
- Develop and maintain investment and liquidity strategies in alignment with risk tolerance and cash flow needs.
- Oversee cash management, banking relationships, and short- and long-term financing plans.
- Ensure all financial activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Coordinate with external tax accountants to manage corporate tax filings and compliance.
- Remain up to date on tax law changes that may impact the company's financial position.
- Manage and oversee the Information technology functions, security, and budget for the organization
- Serve as an advisor to the CEO and leadership team by providing financial insight to support company-wide decision-making.
- Translate financial data into actionable strategies that drive growth, operational efficiency, and profitability.
- Support company development initiatives, capital investment planning, and long-term financial modeling.
- Represent the finance function in leadership meetings, when applicable.
- Drive the development of financial systems, controls, and processes to support scale and accountability.
- Mentor and develop finance and accounting team members to build a high-performing department.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 5 to 10 years of proven experience in financial accounting in a senior leadership role.
- Must have prior protein, specifically beef, experience.
- Previous supervisory experience required, and Proven leadership skills
- Advanced cost accounting and reporting knowledge required
- Must have exceptional MS Excel experience
- Strong interpersonal skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage both details and overview
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
