Essential Duties
Spiritual Formation: Intentionally provide opportunities for staff to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus.
As a follower of Jesus Christ and a minister of His Gospel, lead from a mastery-level understanding of Young Life’s ministry strategy and ensure that global mission staff are supported with financial systems and processes. Ensure that camp staff are supported and equipped to provide excellent camping experiences for individuals to encounter Jesus Christ and know the truth of God’s love for them.
Through continued formal training and direct experience, foster an environment where guests, staff, and volunteers are well cared for using the cornerstones of Biblical stewardship and YL financial systems. The senior director role provides strategy, business management, and professional financial support to Young Life’s 30 US and several international camping operations. This role also leads the global accounts payable department, servicing over 40 countries with 6,000 staff, 57,000 volunteers, and 5,500 corporate purchasing cards.
Note: The anticipated salary for this position can range from $92,071-$135,000 depending on relevant education, experience, and location.

Essential Duties

- Participate in and create opportunities for growing deeper in your relationship with Jesus.
- Build a culture where staff have opportunities for ongoing spiritual development, including execution of their personal spiritual growth plan.
- Lead accounts payable processes and camping operations with Biblical stewardship principles.
- Establish a culture of service that anticipates guest needs and responds with professionalism through intentional decisions and systems.
- Embrace, demonstrate, and teach Financial Services customer care principles.
- Provide financial guidance on vendor selection and assessment.
- Collaborate with camp coordinators in analyzing financially challenged camps and make recommendations that bring them to sustainable operation.
- Engage in ad hoc financial projects for mission leadership in a timely manner.
- Ensure staff prioritize relationships with guests, staff, and vendors to promote healthy community.
- Advocate as a liaison and collaborator between Finance and mission segments (i.e. Camping, US and Int’l Field functions and MSS).
- Communicate between the Human Resources department and camps regarding areas of, COLA and maintenance of camping job descriptions.
- Ensure that staff are developed and equipped to participate in comprehensive stewardship.
- Direct the forecasting of long-range financial plans of operating camps and expansion projects.
- Guide leadership reporting to ensure integrity, accountability, and proper budget management.
- Serve on mission wide topical committees as assigned.
- Serve as Treasurer for Canadian Young Life camping entities (MCMA, Malibu Yacht Charters)
- Identify the reporting, planning tools, and financial skills necessary to equip managers and coordinators to understand financial operations and make good decisions. Incorporate these into routine business processes.
- Work with external auditors to ensure Young Life’s audit is completed and financial statements are accurate.
- Intentionally pursue opportunities in mission leadership, personal growth, and development.
- Provide timely feedback to staff on job performance and perform yearly reviews.
- Monitor and steward the organizational structure (org chart) to support business needs and staff abilities.
- Identify and develop staff suitable for additional leadership opportunities.
- Ensure camp planning and operations are executed within the standards and metrics required for excellence.
- Direct day-to-day accounting and global accounts payable operations to include:
- Maintenance and enhancement of existing accounting systems, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Deployment of appropriate internal controls to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse
- Compliance with all applicable accounting procedures, governmental regulations, and tax laws
- Financial analysis to identify trends and report appropriately
- Resolution of complex accounting issues
- Direct day-to-day finance operations for the Young Life Camping department to include:
- Camp operational forecasting
- Capital expenditure planning
- Management financial training
- Budget coordination
- Financial analysis to identify trends and report appropriately
- Supervision of various state business licenses and tax filings
- Assistance in camp development via accounting, reporting, and associated analysis
- Establish financial policies and procedures in coordination with the VP of Finance and CFO and various levels of leadership.
- Innovate relevant financial tools and processes to support mission growth.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Office environment
- Semi-regular travel: 8-10 times a year
- BSBA in accounting or equivalent
- Equivalent of an advanced business degree (CPA, CMA, or master’s degree in management or finance)
- Identify and execute relevant training courses that increase professional competencies in service to the mission.
- At least five years in financial management, preferably of a non-profit business
- Four to seven years of public accounting
- Nonprofit accounting and tax
- Understanding of international accounting and various currencies
- Strong communication, presentation, analytic, and reasoning skills
- Distributive financial systems experience a plus:
- Workday ERP
- SalesForce CRM
- Vena FP&A
- Previous Young Life involvement desired
