Job Overview

RCSI is seeking a full-time Estimator to join our in-house team at our Escondido, CA headquarters. This essential role will focus on providing accurate, detailed ground-up cost estimations for a variety of commercial construction projects, including tenant improvements (TI), data centers, steel structures, and new building construction. The Estimator will collaborate closely with project managers and field leadership to ensure precision in bid development and cost control across our renewable and commercial building initiatives.

Based in Escondido, CA, and led by President & CEO Drew Lippert, RCSI partners with firms, energy developers, and construction teams to deliver turn-key building and solar solutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Estimating & Bidding: Perform quantity take-offs and develop detailed, ground-up cost estimates for tenant improvement, data center, steel structure, and new building construction projects.
  • Document Review: Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and scope documents to ensure all requirements are captured accurately.
  • Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit and evaluate bids from vendors and subcontractors, maintaining clear records of pricing and scopes.
  • Proposal Preparation: Prepare bid packages and proposals, ensuring all estimates align with project schedules, budgets, and client expectations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers and site leadership to align estimating efforts with operational execution.
  • Value Engineering: Identify opportunities for cost savings or scope optimization while maintaining quality and performance standards.
  • Database & Software Use: Utilize estimating software and company systems to track, manage, and store all estimate-related data.
  • Reporting: Generate regular reports and updates on bid status, estimate accuracy, and cost trends.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • 3+ years of construction estimating experience, with emphasis on TI, ground-up builds, and steel structures.
  • Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and sequencing.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, architectural and structural plans.
  • Knowledge of data center construction and steel structure requirements is a significant plus.
  • Experience with estimating software and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
