Position Summary: The Assistant Athletic Director position is responsible for directing and coordinating all aspects of student-athlete incoming and continuing athletics eligibility. This position may serve as a sport liaison for one or more sports in which this position will monitor processes involving personnel, recruiting activities, awards and benefits, team travel, playing and practice seasons, and general NCAA, CSC, conference and institutional requirements for that sport or sports.

Duties And Responsibilities Of The Position

  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the Office of Athletics Compliance.
  • Oversee the institution’s initial eligibility process (academic and amateurism) for prospective student-athletes intending to enroll at the institution; will be the primary liaison for NCAA Eligibility Center;
  • Monitor the athletics certification progress-toward-degree process for all student-athletes and;
  • Coordinate the preparation of the NCAA squad lists, Big 12 Conference Eligibility Report, and Big 12 Conference Participation report;
  • Oversee the process in approving prospects for publicity;
  • Conduct transfer transcript evaluations in conjunction with SASS and Admissions/Registrar offices; while serving as the liaison to these departments and providing routine compliance education for their staff for all issues related to eligibility and NCAA compliance
  • Oversee the transfer process, including serving as the liaison for the NCAA Transfer Portal and leading communication with student-athletes and coaches regarding the transfer process;
  • Oversee the Campus Sexual Violence process, including serving as the liaison to the campus Title IX Coordinator, ensuring Conduct Attestations & Statements of Good Conduct are on file for each student-athlete, and coordinating with the Campus Sexual Violence committee as issues arise;
  • Serve as compliance staff liaison to one or more sport programs, including providing monthly rules education to assigned program(s); providing interpretations related to questions about NCAA legislation; and handling all aspects of sport program compliance efforts (excluding financial aid); Research and provide interpretations and clarifications of NCAA, Big 12 and Institutional rules and regulations;
  • As a member of the KU compliance staff, assist with day-to-day responsibilities related to an effective compliance department including education, enforcement, and monitoring.
  • Assist with other assignments or tasks as assigned by the Deputy AD or Associate Athletics Director for Compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Minimum of 5 years NCAA Compliance full-time employment;
  • Computer literacy and expertise, knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines and work effectively with frequent interruptions;
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and solutions focused approach to challenges and improvements;
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize good judgment in the interpretation and application of policies and procedures and to exercise discretion in confidential matters is essential;
  • Must possess a strong sense of initiative and independent judgment, and a willingness to be flexible in managing changing priorities;
  • Ability to work well both independently and in collaboration with staff as a team member. Positive attitude and customer service orientation;
  • Outstanding verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred

  • 5 years of NCAA Compliance full-time employment at a Division I institution
