Founded in 1806, Graham Windham has an annual operating budget of $63 million and a staff of 500. It serves over 4,500 youth and families at 12 community-based sites in Harlem, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.

Programs Include

  • Graham SLAM: Long-term support for youth in or at risk of foster care, from high school through career.
  • Beacon and Cornerstone Programs: Academic and enrichment programs for over 1,000 children.
  • Foster Care: Services in the Bronx, Harlem, and Brooklyn.
  • Mental Health Services: Support for behavioral and emotional challenges, including trauma.
  • Family Support & Empowerment: Goal-setting and personal growth for parents.
  • Health Homes Care Management: For children with complex needs.
  • The Graham School: K–12 school for 300 students referred by school districts.
  • Taking Care of Business: Entrepreneurial training and microgrants.

Under the leadership of President and CEO Kimberly Hardy Watson, Graham Windham is supported by a strong Board of Directors, senior leadership, foundations, and government grants.

The Role

With the retirement of its longstanding CFO, Graham Windham seeks a strategic and motivated individual to join the leadership team. The CFO sits on the Executive Council and oversees all finance, budget, audit, accounting, and treasury functions, providing high-level financial guidance to senior leadership and the Board.

The CFO will be a transparent, values-driven leader who fosters inclusion, accountability, and celebration. They will lead with Graham’s organizational pillars: Respect, Grow, Thrive, and Lead.

Scope and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the CEO and Board to set annual goals and develop finance strategies.
  • Maintain multi-year financial models and scenario plans.
  • Advise on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investments, and policy.
  • Lead and mentor the Finance team; build skills and shared priorities.
  • Liaise with Finance & Investment and Audit & Risk Board committees.
  • Oversee accounting systems for multiple revenue sources.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and funder requirements.
  • Align financial planning with fundraising strategies.
  • Guide earned revenue strategy.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, risk management, and reporting.
  • Manage cash flow, banking, and treasury functions.
  • Oversee audits and financial statements.
  • Optimize financial systems and tools.
  • Ensure strong billing and claims documentation systems.
  • Lead financial reporting to stakeholders.
  • Manage insurance portfolio and risk management.
  • Conduct internal audits and ensure payroll integrity.
  • Represent Graham in advocacy and policy development.
  • Stay informed on nonprofit finance trends.

Key Selection Criteria

  • 10+ years of finance experience, including 3+ years in leadership.
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in accounting, finance, or economics).
  • Experience with government, earned, and philanthropic revenue.
  • Strong communication and change leadership skills.
  • Experience with nonprofit Boards and financial systems (e.g., MIP).
  • Proven team leadership and cross-functional collaboration.
  • High emotional intelligence and integrity.

Compensation

  • Salary: Approximately $250,000
