Job Summary

The Control Systems Intern supports the team by performing data entry, validation, and documentation tasks to ensure the accuracy and integrity of engineering data used in automation and control system projects. This role provides exposure to control systems such as Honeywell Experion PKS (DCS) and various PLC platforms, including Honeywell, Allen-Bradley, and Siemens. Ideal for candidates looking to develop hands-on skills in data management, technical documentation, and control systems engineering.

Essential Functions

  • Accurately enter, update, and maintain technical and operational data in control systems documentation and engineering databases
  • Review and verify data from engineering drawings, system specifications, and field reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Cross-check and reconcile discrepancies in project documentation (e.g., I/O lists, loop diagrams, P&IDs)
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining system configuration data, tagging standards, and equipment lists
  • Collaborate with engineers to clarify or validate data entries and support project documentation workflows
  • Perform basic data audits and quality control checks to ensure compliance with engineering standards and version control
  • Generate summaries, reports, or logs as needed to support ongoing engineering and commissioning activities
  • Adhere to data security, version control, and confidentiality requirements at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with file versioning or document control tools
  • Solid typing speed and data entry accuracy
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and ask questions when clarification is needed
  • Comfort working with technical documents, such as engineering drawings or equipment specifications

Education And Experience

  • Current enrollment in or recent completion of an Associate’s or Bachelor’s program in Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Technology, or related field
  • Familiarity with control systems concepts (e.g., PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation) or engineering data structures
  • Basic understanding of scripting for data processing
  • Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or engineering environment
  • Exposure to data entry automation tools or macros is a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time
  • Requires lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring equipment and materials
