Description

Christie Clinic's department of Laboratory is seeking a full-time Lab Assistant from Monday-Friday with variable hours from 8:00am 6:00pm at the University clinic with the potential to travel to other locations, as needed.

Duties include performing Phlebotomy, EKG’s and reception, as needed. Also, may include the preparation and staining of microscope slides relating to Pap Smears and Cytology.

JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)

  • Assist in collection and preparation of FNA specimens as needed.
  • May assist in the preparation and staining of Pap and non-gynecological specimens.
  • File cytology slides and assist in general maintenance of the cytology lab.
  • Support and remain involved in continuous quality improvement efforts designed to enhance patient outcomes, increase patient satisfaction and improve the utilization of Christie Clinic's human, capital and physical resources.
  • Complete specific job competencies for continued employment.
  • Must meet and maintain scheduled attendance requirements.
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients. Identify and label specimens, as needed.
  • Instruct patients on urine collection procedures.
  • Perform pulse oximetry, ekg, and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.
  • Perform basic secretarial/clerical duties.
  • Answer telephones, take messages and provide departmental information to appropriate sources. Triage phone calls when appropriate to Laboratory personnel.
  • Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner. Screen visitors and respond to routine requests for information.
  • Check in patients and verify and update necessary information in the medical record. Assist patients with ambulatory difficulties.
  • Process specimens and orders from Satellite Locations.
  • File Laboratory orders and reports.
  • Clean work area, inventory supplies and place orders.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Potential for travel to other lab locations. Mileage will be reimbursed after employee submits to supervisor.

Typical Physical Demands

Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting up to 25 pounds. Other requirements include visual acuity and normal color perception. Hearing within, or correctable to, normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of office equipment is required. Proofreading documents, closely examining documents and closely examining specimens is mandatory and therefore requires vision correctness.

Typical Working Conditions

Work is performed in a laboratory setting and requires frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Requirements may include working irregular hours.

Pay And Benefits

The estimated pay range for this position is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related criteria.
