About This Position
The Water Well Operator I performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance at water wells, distribution towers, storage tanks, and booster pumping stations. They also provide routine and emergency operation of remote facilities as required. They have an 8-days-on, 6-days-off schedule, with 10 hours per shift. Incumbents must be willing and able to work shifts, holidays, and as part of a rotating on-call schedule to maintain ODEQ requirements.

About This Position
The Water Well Operator I performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance at water wells, distribution towers, storage tanks, and booster pumping stations. They also provide routine and emergency operation of remote facilities as required. They have an 8-days-on, 6-days-off schedule, with 10 hours per shift. Incumbents must be willing and able to work shifts, holidays, and as part of a rotating on-call schedule to maintain ODEQ requirements.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2 years of related experience and/or training
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Class "C" Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License with Hazardous Materials
- Or be able to obtain this license within 6 months of hire
- Driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
- Sample and test for chlorine residual at various sites to document compliance with regulatory requirements
- Maintain chemical supplies at dispensing sites
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on well house equipment, pump stations, and storage tank equipment
- Document all maintenance efforts
- Operate remote facilities
- Coordinate with lab techs and operations staff to develop and implement sampling schedules
- Maintain equipment and site histories on well sites
- Coordinate well operations with plant staff to ensure adequate water supply
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts, materials, and supplies for chlorine dispensing
- Coordinate work efforts with contractors, vendors, and suppliers involved in well rehabilitation, development, or construction
- Maintain pumps, plumbing, and appurtenances for chlorine dispensing at well sites
- Obtain Water Operator licenses according to the following schedule:
- A temporary license within 10 days
- A Class "D" Water Operator within six (6) months
- A Class "C" Water Operator and Class C Water Lab within one (1) year
- Availability and willingness to take on-call coverage during off-staff hours as required
- Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
- Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug and audio screenings
