Job Summary
We are looking for resourceful, energetic, and compassionate teammates to fill a critical and integral role within the organization and the patient journey. This candidate will engage extensively with patients and insurance companies via telephone, email, fax, and text/chat. The Patient Financial Services Representative will join the organization at the early stage of our commercial launch, in which we will be actively learning “real-time” in order to develop the optimal approach to patient onboarding and follow-up that provides our customers the highest level of service. The Advocate is confident at troubleshooting and will investigate if they do not have enough information to resolve customer complaints and inquiries. Their goal is to provide excellent service and to demonstrate our commitment to customer success by ensuring superior results.
This position will report to the Manager, Customer Care with a dotted-line to the Senior Manager, Revenue Cycle Management. The role is full-time, exempt and will work in a hybrid role in our Dallas, TX location.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Establish and maintain supportive and cooperative relationships with patients, providing financial counseling to patients throughout their order journey
- Must have exceptional customer service and telephone skills; maintain a high energy level and positive attitude when communicating; engage patients in a compassionate and confident manner, building a relationship necessary to provide a positive experience and meet their needs.
- Educates patient regarding financial assistance programs when appropriate
- Take incoming calls from patients to assist with resolving their Commercial Insurance questions as well as self-pay balances
- Following – and continuously improving – standard procedures
- Building a knowledge base with regards to issues and troubleshooting resolutions
- Work on special projects as needed
- Identifies process improvement opportunities and participates in improvement plans
- Research and maintain knowledge of HMO, PPO, Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial healthcare plans
- Determine patient’s ability to pay and advises on insurance benefits and patient financial responsibility
- Maintain documents, reports, and records in order to comply with internal compliance and billing as well as state, federal, and local laws.
Education, Experience and Training
- 2+ years of experience in medical billing
- 2+ years of Customer Service experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above
- Knowledge of billing, insurance, and medical billing process
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate in both written and verbal form
- Ability to work independently and accurately with little supervision
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Computer proficiencies, including Microsoft office and Salesforce preferred
- Perform common customer service transactions, interactions, and activities. Log all customer/patient interactions.
- Ensure compliance with all departmental policies and procedures; adhere to all required health care regulations, security, compliance, and HIPAA policies.
- Ability to handle difficult patient interactions in a professional and timely manner; facilitate the resolution of customer issues by following the escalation process when necessary.
