About The Role & Team

As part of the Disneyland Resort Public Relations team, the Public Relations Manager is responsible for the development and execution of strategic communications plans, story ideas, and media pitches as well as cultivation of strong media relationships that will generate positive news coverage and earned media for Disneyland Resort. We are looking for a creative, passionate storyteller who takes pride in the Disney brand, thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with multiple daily duties, adept in writing press/PR communications and managing PR projects. The role reports to the Senior Manager, Public Relations.

Responsibilities


  • Develop, maintain and leverage media relationships in assigned markets, and work with media (print, digital and broadcast) to successfully pitch and place positive news coverage about Disneyland Resort
  • Generate creative story ideas that translate into positive news coverage about Disneyland Resort and pitch and host media to attend major press events or one-off visits and FAMs
  • Research and respond to media inquiries and develop appropriate responses
  • Extensive writing (AP style) of press materials with quick deadlines; manage the research, reviews and approvals with appropriate partners
  • Draft editorial content for owned channels as needed
  • Manage distribution planning of press materials, including the Disneyland Resort newsroom
  • Manage PR projects as assigned
  • Provide guidance in helping shape and/or determine what is newsworthy and interesting from a Media point of view, working closely with communications partners
  • Monitor media coverage about DLR and follow up as needed
  • Work closely with other external and internal partners, including Communications/Public Affairs for Disneyland Resort and Disney Experiences
  • Serve as a Disneyland Resort spokesperson, within Disney guidelines
  • Provide support with multicultural public relations efforts


Basic Qualifications


  • 5+ years’ work experience in Public Relations, Communications, or Journalism
  • Excellent partnering skills
  • Proven knowledge of news markets, news releases, video news production, news and creative photography, social media concepts and platforms, and communication strategy
  • Ability to focus on the details of language, messaging and storytelling
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with demonstrated experience meeting quick deadlines and handling comprehensive writing projects with minimal editing
  • Proficient and experienced in Associated Press writing style
  • Experience working with media and a successful track record of placing stories
  • Proficiency in content management (e.g. Wordpress) and digital asset management tools
  • Demonstrated storytelling skills, and ability to develop and share innovative ideas
  • Proven project management skills and use of tools (e.g. Monday.com)
  • Proven experience communicating effectively under pressure
  • Ability to work comfortably with Cast Members at all levels of the company
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook
  • Proficient with apps and other digital tools, and comfortable talking about them
  • Strong working knowledge of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA


Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous work experience at the Disneyland Resort and/or Disney Experiences
  • Newsroom, Marketing and/or Public Relations experience
  • Proven experience writing press releases and related communication materials
  • Extensive project management experience
  • Knowledge of local and regional media, including Disney fansite media
  • Knowledge of and/or experience working in the travel industry
  • Fluency writing and speaking in Spanish
  • Advanced education, including certifications


Required Education


  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field


The hiring range for this position in Anaheim is $113,800-$152,500 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
