What You Will Be Doing.

Cheekwood’s Adult Education Programs Assistant role is designed for those seeking part-time, hands-on experience in a nonprofit museum and botanical garden. The Adult Education and Programs Assistant will assist with educational programs designed to help Nashville-area adults continue their education in gardens and art. Classroom leadership/instruction may be possible depending on the candidate. This position is ideal for applicants wishing to gain experience in art education, horticulture, or nonprofit administration. The Adult Education Programs Assistant will work under the direction of the Vice President of Education & Outreach to plan and execute adult education workshops and classes.

Duties Include

  • Communicating class details with instructors
  • Creating curricula and supply lists
  • Sourcing materials and maintaining a budget
  • Assisting in overseeing, logistics, planning, and execution of adult education classes and workshops at Cheekwood
  • Seeking out local teaching artists and instructors for potential future classes

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate is passionate about working with the public, enjoys art, is interested in adult education, is detail-oriented, and can work as part of a team or individually.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Canva also preferred.

Hours/Time Commitment

  • 20 hours per week; will be required to work weekend shifts when adult education programs are scheduled.

Education

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Ideally in Education, Science, Humanities, Fine Arts, or related field

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of the Cheekwood Education Department mission and the mission of the institution. Organization and communication skills, excellent written communication and public speaking skills. Strong interest in interpersonal communication and relationship building. Must have the ability to be flexible. A responsible attitude and professionalism toward career are essential. Must be a team player.

Experience

  • Experience in a public or customer-facing role is required. Experience in working in a museum, botanical garden, school, or comparable institution is preferred.

Equipment to be used

  • Telephone, computer, scanner, copier, projector. Constituent relationship manager software and scheduling tools.
