North Carolina State University’s Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (AIR) Lab within the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering is inviting applications for two fully funded PhD positions in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics applied to precision livestock farming. These positions offer the opportunity to participate in innovative research at the intersection of AI, robotics, machine vision, and mathematical modeling with a focus on advancing automation and disease management in livestock systems.
Successful applicants will receive a minimum annual stipend of $33,000, full tuition coverage, health insurance, and support for conference travel. The anticipated start dates are Spring 2026, Fall 2026, or Spring 2027.
Requirements
– Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agricultural, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines
– Experience or strong interest in at least two of the following areas:
– Strong oral and written communication skills
– Experience with large datasets and quantitative analysis
– Demonstrated record of publication or conference presentations
– Knowledge of livestock systems (poultry, swine, cattle, or small ruminants) is desirable

– Strong oral and written communication skills
– Experience with large datasets and quantitative analysis
– Demonstrated record of publication or conference presentations
– Knowledge of livestock systems (poultry, swine, cattle, or small ruminants) is desirable
