Job Summary

The Preregistration Specialist is responsible for providing accurate and timely preregistration of patients ensuring the smooth flow of revenue within healthcare organizations. By collecting and verifying insurance information upfront, the preregistration team helps minimize claim denials and delays in reimbursement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verifying patient identity and ensuring all necessary forms are completed accurately.
  • Entering patient information into the hospital or clinic's electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Contacting insurance companies to verify patient insurance coverage, including eligibility, benefits, and coverage limitations including frequency.
  • Confirming the patient's insurance plan details, such as policy number, group number, and effective dates.
  • Determining any required pre-authorizations or referrals necessary for services.
  • Communicating with patients regarding their insurance coverage and any potential out-of-pocket costs, such as copayments or deductibles.
  • Collaborating with other departments, such as billing and clinical staff, to ensure accurate and timely processing of patient information.
  • Communicating effectively with patients to address questions or concerns regarding their insurance coverage or registration process.
  • Providing support and assistance to patients who may need help navigating insurance-related issues or financial assistance programs.
  • Monitors self-pay accounts, assesses need for internal collection action and connects them with payment plan administrators.
  • Research old balances and work with patient account representatives to assist patients in accurate and satisfactory recovery of insurance benefits.
  • Ensures the treatment plan and appointment details align with coverage and the patient’s chart is clean and accurate.
