Description

The Safety Management System Coordinator (SMSC) reports directly to the QA/SMS Manager and is responsible for the daily application and oversight of the Safety Management System (SMS). This role manages all administrative functions of the SMS Program, including maintaining spreadsheets for system trending, coordinating required training, and ensuring compliance with 14 CFR Part 5. The SMSC facilitates hazard identification and risk management by analyzing reports, developing mitigation strategies, and monitoring the effectiveness of risk controls. This position conducts investigations of incidents, accidents, and hazards as required by the SMS Program, reporting findings to the QA/SMS Manager and acting as a liaison with the FAA regarding SMS compliance. Additional responsibilities include managing the SMS manual, organizing and leading Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs), conducting SMS audits, and ensuring timely and effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions. The SMSC also provides regular updates to the QA/SMS Manager on incidents, investigations, Corrective Action Requests (CARs), Preventive Action Requests (PARs), and SRAs. This role requires conducting procedural evaluations and offering feedback to continuously improve the SMS. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Must be able to effectively work within a diverse work environment.

Physical: Ability to see and read information via computer screen or other electronic device, ability to sit on average 6 hours per day. Walking 1-2 hours per day

Communication: Ability to interact and communicate professionally with others, to read, speak, and write in English, express or exchange ideas utilizing the spoken word, to hear, understand, and follow basic instructions and guidelines, ability to complete routine forms or spreadsheets, use existing form letters or spreadsheets and/or conduct routine oral communication

Mental: Ability to understand, remember, and communicate routine, factual information, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology or data, apply common sense in performing jobs or tasks, maintain confidentiality within the guidelines of the company’s confidentiality and disclosure policy

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily inside, office environment
  • Low to moderate noise level
  • Low risk for exposure to hazardous chemicals, vapors, or materials
  • Be available to work after-hours and/or support on days off if required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in aviation Safety, Quality, or Maintenance
  • Proficient in MS Office
