Job Responsibilities
Serves as the project manager for all paid educational campaigns generated by the Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs (OHSJP). Responsible for writing all Scopes of Work (SOWs) for submission to the agency’s marketing firm; tracks all activities tied to paid campaigns, contracts, and outreach events to ensure deadlines are met. Responsible for writing press releases, media advisories, quotes, scripts, and public service announcements, as well as social media copy for paid media strategy and outreach events. Responsible for the weekly release of fatality data to the media.
Assists with the planning and coordination of statewide safety campaigns and initiatives spearheaded by the OHSJP. Participates in program area-related task forces and work groups. Drafts and develops Scopes of Work (SOW) for submission to the agency’s marketing firm for campaigns, events, meetings and other activities sponsored by OHSJP. Requests branded assets (re-tags) from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Communications Office for materials related to statewide paid media campaigns.
Plans and coordinates all activities related to outreach events throughout the year, including contract execution, securing assets by established deadlines, coordination of onsite activities, etc. Coordinates all aspects of the annual Memorial Service for Highway Fatality Victims.
Prepares media advisories and/or press releases for OHSJP meetings and events, quotes, scripts, and public service announcements, as well as social media copy for paid media strategy and outreach events Issues weekly press release to media regarding weekend fatality data.
Serves as the liaison between OHSJP and South Carolina Department of Public Safety’s Office of Public Affairs, SCHP and State Transport Police Community Relations Officers (CROs), local law enforcement agencies, and other state and local partners regarding campaign efforts. Shares campaign and outreach information with these and other partners.
Prepares and submits assigned internal OHSJP grant on an annual basis. Prepares the assigned portions of the annual Highway Safety Plan. Recommends updates to the OHSJP policy and procedures manual pertaining to highway safety-related public information campaigns and educational efforts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.
Agency Requirements
A bachelor's degree in journalism or related field and experience in media/public relations and event planning.
Knowledge of journalistic principles, practices and techniques related to the dissemination of information.
Must be detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated with strong written and oral communication skills and must interact with the public at community outreach events held throughout the year.
Must be able to create tracking documents to ensure projects and campaigns are on track to meet all deadlines.
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision taking initiative and ownership of projects assigned.
Must be able to manage time and projects well.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Comments
Must be able to work nights and weekends for external outreach community events held throughout the year. Must be able to carry up to 25 pounds of equipment to and from booths at outreach events. Requires frequent walking and standing. Must hold a valid SC driver’s license. Have ability to travel in-state and out-of-state for training and Highway Safety events.
